I'm Ralf from Holland,,,

Want to buld a 408 stroker engine for my '67 Coronet from a 360 magnum.

I'm looking for some specs to build a good street/strip engine.
Are there any guys (ore girls) driving a mopar with 408 stroker?
I'm looking voor engine specs/dyno so i can make up a plan for building a good engine.

Thanks.

Ralf.

This book is a must read, lots of engine combos in there:

Ralf, the 406 we did for my '74 Duster - A/C, 3.21 gear, street car - was pretty basic: iron heads, Eddy Performer, T-quad, 9.5:1 (a bit much on 91 octane), Engle 214/224 @ .050 & .470/.504 lift cam, basic headers. Pulled plenty of vacuum, great throttle response, 17MPG @ 70, more than enough power on the street, sounded healthy but ran smoothly. Stock converter & automatic. I'd do it again in a heartbeat but with 9.0:1 so I could run a bit more advance curve on 91, though where I live now the gas is better and I'm about 2000' higher altitude. With aluminum heads, the 9.5 would likely be OK. Also more overlap would ease the octane sensitivity, but the trade-off is throttle response & vacuum. Your car is probably 200 lbs heavier than my Duster, which tends to magnify the laziness of a big cam @ low RPM. Hope that info helps.

Oh, sweet! Netherlands rules. What is the cost of fuel there ( per gallon/liter)?

Good stuff! 98 research octane as used in Europe is roughly equal to 94-95 octane using US the R+M/2 method. The 98 research octane is a bit better than common US premium but not a lot. You still can't go cazy on compression.

PS... if you use Magnum heads (good idea) and set the pistons for .040" quench you can push the compression more without detonation.

Mopar RT 1.92 heads, Mopar 4bbl intake, Harland Sharp 1.6 Roller rockers, 52x55 mm throttle body, SCT Tuning. been built for 7 years now and can drive it any day I choose as long as it does not rain..if it rains I have to drive it carefully.

Very Very Very happy I went the stroker route w/ my Lil' Red Express.

I wanted a very strong engine that would behave like a good street engine...something that sounded tough pulling in at the cruises and hang out spots, is more than a match for most vehicles in the stoplight-drags or at the drag strip, and plenty easy to live with without using crazy gears/torque converter. The truck made every goal easily.

Engine: 408ci magnum based stroker. 10.5:1 compression, Eddy AL heads modified w/ 2.08 valves/ported, HYD roller cam (228/236 @ .050, .550/.565, 108 LSA), Eddy performer rpm, Holley avenger 780.

Idles decent (good lope idling in gear), with more than enough vacuum for power brakes, pushes the truck easily w/ 3.55 gears...probably low 13's as it sits in the 1/4, maybe quicker...will light off the tire at any speed under 30mph, yet can take on long cruises, idle in traffic, etc.

I think it would have been harder to pull off the same feat using a standard cube 360 and be as happy with the driving characteristics.
