I'm in the process of a 4 speed conversion on a 69 Charger.
Have just about everything except for the bellhousing.
Motor is a 440, tranny is a hemi 4 speed.
A local guy is selling a 68 bell housing for a decent price.
I'm not sure what the difference is between a 68 and 69 bellhousing.
Can anyone shed some light on the difference?
Will the 68 bell work ok on my 69 setup?

The differences will be whether it's a bh for a 130 tooth or 143 tooth flywheel -10.5" or 11" clutch. I believe that 68 & 69 were 11" and '70 up were 10.5

The difference between the 68 and the 69 bellhousing is the 68 does not have the bolt pattern for the 3 speed which became available for big blocks in 69

That said, yes you can use it as long as you are not trying to put a 3 speed on it .

If your talking about an 11" housing then yes the only diff between 68-9 is that 69 has both 3sp/4sp pattern. IF the 68 housing is out of an A/C body w/383 it will be 10.5" and have the small bearing retainer register. What year is your 18 spline? 66-7 /4.354" and 68-72 / 4.805".

You need a bellhousing that will work with your trans. mainly the front bearing retainer size and the hole in the bell housing for it to fit into Iron and aluminum also, depending on the year The last thing is the starter location has to match the flywheel tooth count, 130 or 143 tooth and the dreaded Hemi 170 tooth flywheel bell housing with the direct drive starter In the end the bellbouisng has to match the flywheel size and the front bearing retainer size Thanks, Mopar engineering for the nightmare Stupid bunch of buereucrats

Get the number off the bellhousing and compare it to this chart.
