Yes, another question. Now that the 383 is rebuilt, I put a Edlebrock intake, cam and carb. 600 cfm on it. Seems to run fine but I have a hard time keeping it to idle when it is warming up. Once its warmed up its fine but, if I put my hand over the front top of the throat to block the air, the engine actually speeds up!!! I can put the air filter housing on and block both nozzles with my hands, the engine just keeps on running like normal. I poured water around the carb and the intake manifold and saw no change in idle speed. The choke is working like it should. Is it possible that air is getting in somewhere under the intake on the bottom. I did not use the gaskets that came with the manifold. Should I just take the intake off and put the gaskets on? I hear so often that they arn't needed so I tried it without them Thanks, Alex

Sure sounds like classic vac leak but the Eddy 1406 does comes lean plus the electric choke comes off way too fast. If you do pull the intake the paper gaskets may be too thick unless they are the .015" ones that a member here sells & cause bolt hole/port misalignment. I would check that on mockup & I dont think the supplied Felpro are cut precision enough to suit me & I prefer to use a light/thin/even smear of permatex #2 in the toothpaste like tube on both sides of the 8 port holes in the tin valley pan gasket. Also on mockup check the top/bottom alignment between the intake and the heads on all 4 intake corners by setting the intake on without any gaskets & use your feeler gauges
