I received new torsion bars from Mancini (MP .960") to install this weekend. I understand the rt / lt and front to back discussions and figured that out. My question is; the left bar (#785) has a slight bow in it. Is this coincident or design? And, does the bow 'face / rise' up(I assume it does)?
I am replacing a set of 1" Just Suspension 'touring' bars that have a lowering offset (too low for me -even after adjusting all the way up).
Thanks

They should be straight. A slight bow probably will not matter.

Take care,

It isn't unusual for them to have a bow in them. There is a lot of stress in those bars from the way they are made. It shouldn't be a problem as long as the bow doesn't get bigger when it is loaded.

Bummer on the Just Suspension bars. I didn't realize they weren't making those bars correctly. I know some of the other vendors don't put the correct offset in the hex ends, didn't know JS had the same issue.

Thanks for the input! I noticed when restoring the car and installing the JS torsion bars, that when laid next to the stock ones on the table they laid flat (on hex) to flat (on hex) looking end to end. The stock ones lay flat to peak (on the hex)end to end. As I removed the JS bars this morning, I also noticed the adjuster (which I had all the way in to get some height) was slapping the torque bar and had damage on the right side. I heard this when driving but could not pinpoint.
Installing the new ones this PM.

how low was too low? I'm interested is some larger bars and my charger is pretty low in the front by choice so maybe a good choice for me. although I read in this section that their 1" bar really isn't, it's smaller.

I don't know why vendors make the bars wrong. Point to point doesn't work for the smaller bars. Evidently the vendors never bother to actually test fit their parts?

Oh what the hell is this now?

The JS bars were going to be my next purchase. I thought they were stock configuration? I dont want my car lowered. If anything, i want it on the high side.

Are the Just Suspension bars gonna give me a hard time on this...???

I have my new .960 MP installed. What a great difference to be able to adjust the ride height (up). I have the used JS ones, but honestly could not sell them without explaining they do not work with all other stock components (upper, lower control arms, ...)on a '70 ebody.
I will drive today and set ride height to exactly what I want (~ 1/2" of rake from rear) and then get (another) alignment.
Thanks

That's weird? I have JS bars in mine too and they work/fit great. The adjuster is at about half way when installed at ride height. I have the bars hanging in the crossmember sockets at the moment as I'm doing an engine swap and the hex is not flat to flat. They are indexed. One sits flat and the other end sits on a hex point? Do yours have the JS logo in the end of the bar? I have 1.120" bars coming from firm feel to see how I like it. FYI the 1" bars are a soft ride IMO. But I have a BB. I bought them about 2-3 years ago if that factors into anything?

Interesting thread, I am glad I read it as I too am deciding between the JS bars and the MP .96 bars.

My JS bars were not 'indexed'. I did call them and email them once I noticed the difference from my stock bars. They (I saved the email somewhere) told me the bars were 'pro-touring type' and most people like the lowered look and ride / feel. They did offer to exchange them at that time, but I questioned -there was only one (1") bar available at the time from JS for my ebody.
Note- I bought these in 2009. My 'restoration' / rebuild was from '07 to '11.
Not bagging on any supplier here, just an fyi / experience.

I know that some aftermarket bars are not indexed. I wrote about that in a tech article a while back. Mopar Performance bars are indexed 30 degrees which usually works okay. I know that Firm Feel changes the index on their bars according to the stiffness of the bar. I've seen a few bars that were not indexed and would not work in the vehicle.

Gee... thats swell.

I just cant win with this stupid project. Its either 'I'm rich and can afford to buy random [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] until i get it right' or build my damn Cadillac...

I really really really really REALLY hate the "you get what you pay for" axiom. Its ALWAYS true. Which... is great if you can afford to pay...

I bought my Just Suspension 1" bars in late 2009 early 2010. Both bars were indexed 30* making each one useable on both sides. I've had no problem with adjustments, currently the car sits at about stock ride height.

I'm at the stage where everything is going back together with the latest being the engine and tranny being installed. With these items, we loaded the suspension and adjusted to set the height. Come to find out the adjuster screws are in just enough and stick far out. The bars are installed left and right correctly. Talking with the vendor abiout the hex indexing and they believe my bars are mis labelled / stamped wrong. The Right is the left and the left is the right. I'm guessing I'm going to have to bite the bullet and swap them and prayed to the Blessed Mother of Rapid Acceleration that this works.

Quite maddening all that effort and we cannot achieve the height we want. I realize the bars need to settle and they're beefier than stock. I really hope switching them works so the screw adjusters are more engaged. I could have the bolts shortened, but it's roll the dice if that will be of any significant help. Gut tells me to swap the bars but I'm not a suspension expert.

Hate to hit a dead possum with those adjusters. Already wrecked my Moroso 8 quart pan which started this business.

LH and RH doesn't matter if the bars are indexed the same. Mopar bars are both indexed 30 degrees so swapping them side to side won't change the adjuster position. (It still is not a good idea to swap OEM bars side to side though but that is becuase of a different issue)

The aftermarket bars that I've seen which are built wrong are not indexed at all. Once again, swapping them side to side will not change anything.

I can't tell what is wrong with your car by just looking at the pictures. I'd need to pull the bars out and look at them before I'd know what the issue was.

Do you still have the original bars on hand? If so, put them back in and see what it looks like. Then compare old vs. new to see what the difference is.

Understood. I have been in contact with the vendor. I'm not naming them as we are working it out but the swapping side to side was a recommendation. I'm not bashing them.

Gonna have to dig the old bars out.

I sent you an email on another issue.

Sorry to steer off topic...
