In the late 60's-early 70's I think that most big block 4 speed Mopars came with 3.23's and had 3.55 or 4.10 as an option. Did the options go the other way also, like 2.94 or 2.76?

3.54s and 4.10s in a Dana 60. 3.23s, 3.55s and 3.91s in a 8 3/4. I know the 3.23s were the base ratio for the performance cars...

I am truckless..

Was 4.10 available before '69? I thought the Dana was only available with a 3.54 until the Super Track Pack came out?

Looking for the original block for my Bee. The last 4 are 7449

I guess my question isn't clear. I am wondering if numerically smaller rear gear ratios were available in big block 4 speed cars. I have never seen anything smaller than a 3.23. When I changed to 29" tires from the original 26.2", my engine/trans/clutch effectively are looking at a 2.92 ratio. Trying to figure if I should change to a 3.55 in order to get everything back to the factory configuration. I do have to slip the clutch a bit on launch with the current 3.23. Clear as mud now, huh?

Looks like I am way off base. http://www.allpar.com/cars/plymouth/GTX.html
Apparantly the 4 speed GTX cars came with a 3.55 which means that I need a 3.91 to compensate with the 29" tires.

Someone said it above , factory ratio in a big block 4 speed PERFORMANCE car was 3.23 , I don't think the lower gear ratios were optional in a big block.

If you want to get back gear ratio with your taller tire then you need to put a higher numerical ratio gear in the car or swap the trans to something with a taller first gear ... 3.09 ... , but then you have a big gear spread from 1st to 2nd.

you didn't say what car , but if you have a factory 440 4 speed car it would have a dana 60 and the lowest gear in a dana in a performance car was 3.54 , 3.55 is an 8 3/4 gear ratio. You'll have a very hard time finding a 3.91 for a dana 60, don't think it was ever available. Chrysler didn't offer this but a 3.73 is available, next up is 4.10.
