I'm planning to put a 6.1 in my 70 cuda but I am stuck... To fit in the tranny from the SRT8 Challenger it seems to be lots of work widening the tunnel. I dont want to use an acient 727. Is there any other options?

518 od out of truck. .69 od ratio, 727 plus od.
Can add trans go shift kit to make it feel old school.

I've run several Hemi's in DD's. They really respond to a sophisticated transmission - low gears and some convertor slip for good low speed response and OD + lockup for cruise efficiency. The Keisler 4 speed would be a good option w/o cutting the X member.

Keisler auto seems nice but kinda pricey. Anybody tried a TH700? They look small, are cheap to build and available in many versions.
Here is an adapter: http://www.wilcap.com/mopar.html#57L350

We all hate that... but if it saves cutting in the floor it is for a good reason

use the A518 or the A500 (if you want a lower first gear) You can build them to handle the power and they will fit without cutting the floor. The key is the trans x member. A few places have them to make the angles correct. John at US Car tool has one and a couple of others I cant remember off hand. Check out this link:

Where did you get the 6.1 from? I am also looking for one, with all the accessories.

A friend bought a 08 Chally from a salvage auction with engine damage. Before he got it home he found another totaled 08 Chally with low miles so he bought that one too just for the engine. The damage turned out to be only one damaged rod bearing so I bought it from him. There has been a coulple of 6.1's on ebay recently.

Thanks for the great link! There was a guy at Spring Fling who had fabbed and sold the needed parts for mounting a 518 in e-body, he had his 72(?) cuda on display but I cant remember his name, anyone? I had no plans for swapping trannys by that time...

Does the 518 fit the gen III Hemi?
What converter should I use? I dont know needed stall speed on the 6.1. Same goes for final gearing. Anyone?

I have just started doing reserch so I can get parts and do the swap over winter, my cuda will be cruising some more before I take it apart

Yes, you can bolt up the 500-518 no problem to new gen hemi. You just need to use a different flexplate which you can get from mancini and others. I think it is around $100-120. It is pretty much the same as any small block. I am not sure of the 72 challenger is the same that US car tool made the mount for originally or not.

As far as which convertor to use, I don't know that either and was looking for that info too. I am sure the trans shops will know the answer. I was hoping to use the stock convertor.

Check out this link too, right from a member here:

I would like to get one out of a salvage car too that way all the goodies are with it. Does your friend use copart or IAAI? I see many for sale on these sites but is a PITA to bid on them if you are not a dealer/recycler/ etc.
