Any recommendations on a paint manufacturer for 1969 B3 Blue? PPG? Dupont?
Or is one just as good as the other?
I will be getting my 1969 Bee painted soon so looking for recommendations.
The car will be a really nice driver. Not looking for OEM gold.
Will any supplier have the formula to correctly mix B3?

I can't say 100% for B3 but on B5 & B7 PPG is far closer to OE than Dupont... To bad cause I use to really like Dupont....

Based on what I have been able to find on the net it looks like the PPG paint code for B3 is 2018 and Dupont is 4981.
Sorry for the newbie questions but if I take these codes into a supplier would they have the formulas which correspond to those paint codes to correctly mix the paint?

Cool! Another '69 B3 Bee. My '69 Bee was originally B3 too. Did your car originally come in that color? It's actually a rare color for '69 Bees. To answer your questions though... a good, reputable auto/body/paint supply shop will be able to mix the color up for you either way. You can either tell them 1969 Dodge B3 or the specific paint supplier's code. They'll be able to mix it up either way. Hope this helps.

Yes it is an original B3 car. There don't seem to be many around.
I got the car from my uncle who was the second owner. It is also a stripe delete car so just the Bee on the quarter.

Not true that a color match can be made for a factory color in each brand of paint. Had my 69 Coronet painted in B3 with Sikkens paint. Its nowhere near right, but I actually like it much much better. I thought I was crazy and when my fenders got damaged I had B3 mixed in 3 other brands of paint and none matched each other or the paint on my car. Should see the trouble there is getting B5 'right'.

That is a great looking ragtop!!
I have noticed the different shades of B5 blue on cars at shows. It is much more noticeable when they are parked side by side.
That shouldn't be as much of a problem with B3 cars since there aren't many around but it still doesn't make it right.
I wonder if it is the formula that is different between the brands or is it the guy doing the mixing and/or the equipment used to mix the paint.

The only way with modern B/C systems is to spray test panels and compare them to an untouched example on the car. Usually under the windshield gasket is the best place. Under the drip rail moldings are another decent place.

I agree 110%. Being in the body shop business, I see this EVERY DAY. Colors never match. As mentioned, it's best to get your color match worked out early on. You don't have to buy all the paint in the beginning, get just enough to get the color right, then save the formula for when you're ready to spray.
I've even seen where different brand paint chip pages do not match from brand to brand.
