Yes, I saw a block once that had keyways cut into the as cast lifter bores.

Apart from the old Crower units that used a couple of ball bearings and supplied a fixture, I would imagine it would be tricky machining the grooves accurately. Unless you could do it yourself, I would imagine it would be an expensive exercise.

I ask because I'm having a little trouble getting the dimensions that I need for a link bar lifter, etc, etc, and I don't want to bush unless necessary.

Personally I'd go ahead and bush the bores vs cutting a key slot in the iron. You can correct geometry, lifter clearance and control oil flow as needed with the bushings.

Really? You can pull out a lifter bushing and replace it? I mean can you correct a problem created by lifter bushings, such as too small of oiling holes or if you damage a lifter bushing, can it be replaced?

I think you're giving yourself WAY too much grief. You're not the first guy to run a big roller in an aluminum block. But you aren't very forthcoming with information unless we ask for it.

Rephrase your question and spell out all the specifics - block, cam, intended use, etc.. I don't doubt you'll then get very specific suggestions about which lifters will fit and serve the purpose.

Hi Stan. I need some help and I'm looking everywhere. I don't want the grief. I appreciate your concern. I think I will start a new post.

Thanks.

lifter bores typically don't have enough material on that side of the bore to allow cutting a keyway. that's the reason the bore is enlarged first and then a bushing is used.

Jesel Keyway lifters are around $2600 plus bushes and installation. Probably around $4K when all said and done.
Most of the lifter companies will work with you on changing the link bars if they are proving to be a problem.

My engine builder won't use anything else for high end builds. I guess it depends on the budget and the build. They are the best lifter...hands down. If you don't need the best then they may be throwing money away.
