Put a new alternator, new battery, new fusible link, and can jump start the truck and it runs. As long as it's linked to the jump vehicle, the radio and a/c works.

I let it idle for an hour, then went out and turned on the a/c and the truck stalled out again. Won't start unless I jump it...again.

Guidance?

The battery lead cables could have internal corrosion, limiting their effectiveness. I've had cables that were old but looked okay from the outside, but wouldn't provide adequate power.

I'd clean the large batt cables and the brass terminals in the bulkhead. Use a NAPA brass 1/4" male terminal #725147 to clean the female ones in one half of the bulkhead and a small steel bristle brush to clean the male ones in the other half. If needed check/clean the starter relay terminals and it's ground

check the triangle rubber plug at the fuseable links, make sure the fuselinks are all good.

I know you replaced some but make sure they did not burn again. how did you splice them in? crimp connectors?

check the alt batt wire on pass side running down vc to the firewall plug. its a spade plug that will burn up.

you should replace the volatge regulator and clean the firewall for a good ground with every alt change.

replace the ballist resistor also, then check to see if the alt is charging.

if its not charging a power draw will kill the Batt in short order and engine will die with more power draw.

ifin it was mine to fix...

I have fixed many like this by striping all the stock crap out and run a points dist with a pertronix points conversion.

by-pass BR for full 12 volts to the coil, unplug the ecu and all the other crap tape the plugs up and tuck it all behind the fender brace so it looks like this.

that will only leave the alt/VR/feild/Batt wires, only thing on the fender is the stater relay.(which i just had to fix the alt batt wire at the firewall plug,it kept blowing headlights and smokeing alts on the 85 truck.)
