I tried mine both ways and it seperated too much and slowed me down by removing the rear clamps. They put em there for a reason but understand some cars liked it. Get some cal-tracs...............

It helped my car 60' more consistantly. Here is a shot of the car leaving. It was a low to mid 12 second car and would 60' in the 1.69-1.74 range depending on the weather. If it was a 1.72 60" day it would repeat all day long. With the clamps on it wasn't as good.

IMO, the rate and amount of rise exhibited by the correct SS leaf springs should be controlled by the proper shocks and work "with" the front suspension. Removing the rear clamps may help in certain cases, but I think it's a "band-aid fix".

On a stocker I can appreciate putting the effort and money into swapping out springs and shocks to find the ultimate combo but when your only bracket racing when money and time permit the budget doesn't always allow for that so if the car repeats better by removing the clamps off the rear of the springs I wouldn't call that a bandaid I would call that an improvement. The OP asked if removing the clamps helps and in my case it did.

I tried this on my Super Stock Hemi 4 speed car many years ago and it slowed us down, plus it got a little squirley on top end this way. Maybe it works for a light weight auto car, but not with my SS/D 4 speed car.
Good Luck

That is from the old Direct-Connection Bible worked then and will still work now.You also need to make sure your rear spring hangers are positioned right,on drivers side the top on the hanger should be in the 10:00 o-clock position,on passenger side the top of hanger should be in the 2:00 o-clock position, with the rear spring clamps removed a pinion snubber and a set of 50/50 shocks you will be surprised how well it will work and even more pleased with what little effort and $$$ it takes.
I had a 67 Dodge R/T with 4-speed a few years back set up this way and it worked great. If I had not done this myself and knew it worked,I would not be telling you are anyone else to do it.

I went under my car and took pictures of how I got it to work with SS springs.I welded a 1/8" plate 4x2" where the stubber it notice the rubber is gone.It loads steel to steel. The rubber keep breaking off because of moving too much. Before I put this plate it beat the hell out and dented the bottom bad .This works on my Duster~~

This is a 4x4" clamp that I made for the front of the spring on the driver side only. The car gets 1.403,1.406,and 1.407 on back to back passes.I had a clamp on the other side but had to remove it to get it to work I been working on this car since 1990 and tryed alot of things but this worked.

I clamped the top, and second spring ply together behind the axle, and left the rest unclamped. That seemed to work the best for me on my 68 Cuda fast-back.

We run s/s springs on the 67 Belv, with no snubber and all the factory clamps on the springs. Consistant 1.37--60'and 9.80's. My friend was running just a pinion snubber and stock springs on his Road runner and burnning the tires up out of the hole. He asked me if s/s springs were the route to take. I said put a set on and find out. Next time I see the Road Runner , it is bucking up and down like a wild bronco until it would get into high gear. Torkflite tranny. I was standing with 2 friends, Arlen Vankee and Dave Duell, and asked them what would cause this bucking up and down. They both had the same answer--The car has probably got both s/s springs and pinion snubber. The suspension was loading and unloading because of the snubber. I couldn't believe that my friend was running both. Yep he was, and the video that his wife had shot of him on the track convinced my friend to throw away the snubber. 60 foot went down and so did his e.t. It helps to listen to the old factory racers.

Dan Dvorak told me to"get rid of that snubber" , but I've been afraid to for fear of wrapping the springs and getting into a funky pinion angle and doing some damage. My springs are for a 2800 lb car and it weighs 3060 w/me, but I think I'm gonna try it and just ease into it, launching harder each time.

Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

It sure does. Still too chicken to take it off, I put a 2" gap between the snubber and the stop and WHAT a difference. Wheels up launch like being shot out of a slingshot compared to what I'm used to. None of that squat, rise then move forward stuff, just hike'em and go all at the same time.
