Upon having constant problems with throwout bearings and pilot bearings, I've come to find out, the center hole in my current lakewood bellhousing was filed, and out of round, making it impossible to do the belhousing alignment procedure. Just purchased a NEW Lakewood from Mancini. Got it today.....only to find that the center Hole to be 5.5 inches in comparison to the 4.8 " hole in my old one, which is slightly larger than the front yoke/retainer size which what I "thought" locates Trans after the bellhousing is properly aligned! Nothing contained in the box to reduce it down to the correct size. The Question is..isn't the size of that hole Critical to locate the transmission properly??
Possibly a reducer ring missing?? Very Concerned...not a cheap date!

personal opinion here, those lakewood cans are crap. my 68 383 road runner had the same bellhousing as a 440 from the factory.. the 23 spline tranny had a small o.d. retainer and i didn't have any problems with a larger o.d. bearing retainer hole.

There is an adapter available, I had to get one a couple dozen years ago when I put an older trans in my Duster.

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.

Little confused here, a 68 trans behind the 383 would have had a bearing retainer that fit that bellhousing, which is the same for a 383 or a 440 in 1968.

To the OP , something is wrong with that Lakewood if the hole is 5.5 , the biggest one MIGHT have been is 5.125 , size of an OD trans retainer. A big block never had an OD behind it, I'd be calling Lakewood to find out what is going on ....

I agree this seems odd. Did you bolt it to the engine, you sure you got the right PN?

When I bought my lakewood BB housing (~8 years ago) it came with the reducer ring for the smaller bearing retainer.

It also came with all the hardware and also the starter kit to use a 130 tooth flywheel.

WELL AS IT TURNS OUT, THE ONLINE WRITE UP SHOULD INCLUDE THE SENTENCE "THIS WILL NOT FIT " 833 4 SPEED TRANSMISSION. HAD THAT BEEN IN THE DESCRIPTION,( I THINK YOU CAN READ IT DIFFERENT WAYS), I WOULD NOT HAVE MADE THE PURCHASE. THE COMPANY HOWEVER, WHO IS VERY VERY GOOD, AGREED TO A RETURN. I NOW WILL HAVE TO BUY THE QUICK TIME, WHICH IS A BIT MORE SPENDY.

Unfortuanately you didn't bother to give us any info about your combo. For all we know you're trying to stick an 833 behind a Chevy!

But assuming you're putting an 833 behind a Mopar, it seems strange that there isn't a Lakewood housing for it as they made just about every configuration.

As for you "out of round", I have the same problem BUT I just bought an adapter ring and held it in place with magnets to check the runout.

As for the comment about Lakewoods being junk, 40 years ago there were only 2 options - Lakewood or Ansen. And technology wasn't what it is today. Unfortunately Lakewood just kept on making them the same way. However, they must work or they would have stopped producing them long ago.

Sorry, it's a B body Hemi, and a 833 I've had for 38 years. Done just slamming it back together. Time to clean things up, dial everything in correctly. Someone else remarked "junk", that was not me. I agree with you on what's been available over the years, and it's all been just fine. I just intend to start fresh and eliminate all the variables.
