Refreshing my 410 with 9.8 compression. what should the end gap be on top and bottom compression rings?

No nitrous, chrome moly Rings. Street and strip use eddy heads with Diamond dish Pistons..Thanks

I believe the spec is .004 per inch of bore... I like
to make the second ring .004 larger than the top so
it doesnt hold any pressure

On my 4.377 bore big block I set the top at .018 and my second at .027 per Pettis`s recommendation.............he`s fnding that the larger than normal second ring gaps work very well in most applications.

.019/.021 4.5" bore, chrome moly top ring. per tim banning's suggestions.

I did mine at .022, .024 per Wiseco recomendations. The gap isn't as important as making sure the second ring is a couple thousands wider gap. The wider gap on the 2nd ring helps prevent ring flutter.


Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

It depends a lot more factors than you posted.

But from what you said, somewhere around 0.017 top, 0.020" second should be fine. It could be tighter, it just depends...

My BB race 4.375" bore I run 0.021 and 0.024"
But my street/strip 4.350" bore I have 0.018"
