Sometimes a worn pump will not prime at slow cranking speeds. Fill the carb bowls thru the bowl vents so it will run for 10 seconds or so & see if it will pump. If no go check the 2 neoprene lines on the hard lines and pull the pump & check the pushrod, no scalloped ends & the length when new is 3&1/4"

Take the fuel line loose at the pump, jack the car up on the drivers side to where the front line is lower than the fuel tank. Fuel should gush out of the line if it is not blocked. The line should be primed for the pump to pull fuel up to he carb. If it don't pump from here get ready to change a pump.

Make sure its a NEW filter.
Second - try another new pump.
New tank, new sending unit and new lines = no restrictions. Therefore its down to the first two mentioned.
Let us know when you figure it out!

Either you have leak on the suction side, or a short push rod if this is a BB. If sb maybe you have the fuel pump installed wrong?

Just Saturday I installed a gas tank with new lines on a sb challenger. I only had to crank it for less than minute to get gas to the carb and for it to start after I poured 5 gallons in the tank.

Also I hope you don't have a filter in front of your fuel pump, because it can't suck through a filter that is designed to go after the pump. Only the sock in the fuel tank should be between your pump and fuel tank.

Had the same issue... New tank, new lines, new pump. Cranked and cranked and it wouldn't pick up the gas. I hooked up a hand pump to the fuel line at the pump and pulled up some gas. Fired right up after that.

I had this problem too. I ended up taking the fuel line off at the carb. I used an old oil can to inject fuel into the line until it wouldn't take any more. The engine fired off right away after that.

My pump was used and already was primed I bet?

Maybe it would help to squirt some oil into the inlet of the pump and pump it a few times before installing it onto the motor?

Put many of fuel pumps on and never had to prime one of them. I would bet there is a small leak on the suction side.

This maybe a dumb question but any way I have the carb full of gas and it still won't start I have the alternator off does the alternator need to be on and the wires pluged in for it to fire I don't think so but thought I'd ask the car does have the msd box. Thanks again paul
