Wanting to upgrade my shocks on my 1974 Dart 2dr. Current set up is as follows: 6 cyl bars up front w/ Comp Engineering 3ways (90/10 setting) 002/003 Super Stocks in back. Pinion angle set at 6.5 degrees nose down, rear shackles orientated correctly (per the MP Chassis book). Have Mopar Performance long drag shocks on back. Car has iron head 440 w/ 727 auto, 30x9 slicks, 4.30 gears, 3300lbs race ready. I footbrake, leave at 1800rpm. (9.5 Dynamic Converter Hi gear "flashes" 5100 rpm) Scaled car at race weight- no ballast I am 47.3% rear, 52.7% front. 100lbs in rear gets me very close to 50/50 (Never ran it that way) Current best 60 ft 1.47. Problem I am having from watching it on video is that I appear to have excessive seperation in the back on launch. Looking for your opinions as to what you feel would be the best value in adjustable shocks for front and rear with my set-up. Thanks in advance......

Not sure if you really actually have a problem at all. The springs are supposed to seperate. I had S/S springs on my old car( Duster) that went consistant mid 1.3xx 60 foot with CE 3 ways all around, and did it extremely consistantly. High 9'S. Pinion angle seems a little excessive( Imo) for leafs, i had mine set at almost 5 down and that was plenty. Tried a couple of different times clamping springs, etc, but found they worked best exactly the way Mopar engineered them..lol.. What does you car run? Maybe it is 60 footing the way it should.
Unless your car is well down in the 10's i suspect you have it working great already.

Whats the 60' now... make sure the front is moving easy and try to get 4+" of travel... I'm not a fan on the CE shocks... but if the front is working I would look at QA1s or the AFCO shocks for the rear

I think your 60ft is good for your times, according to the wallace calc, it's good enough for a 10.58, which indicates that you need more top end power. My best on ranchos was 1.43, my best on afco doubles, so far is 1.39, if the weather is good here next weekend i'm looking to better that but we are having the wettest summer i can remember. We've had more rain today, than the average for the whole of july normally. Mick

Is that the typical 60' or your best.. weather and track conditions play a major part... but shock are one of the biggest improvements in years(along with tires)

I would try unclamping the rear half(behind the rer end housing) and put it back with the one clamp like the factory sent them out with Then try moving the right side rear clamp towards the rear end, I think my best results where with the right rear clamp positioned one leaf back from the center bolt and the left side three leafs back from the center bolt, maybe not so on the drivers side because it was a really long time ago when I ran tha car at the track. My message is to try the rear clamps in different locations for the best results. That old car did like having all the clamps I could fit on the front half 1969 Dart 440 with a 727 and 3.91,29.5x10.5x15 M/T drag slicks, 1.52 60ft foot braking with 11.21 best ET at 122 MPH What size fuel lines, filters sizes in microns and inlet and outlet sizes, pumps, needles and seats are you using now?
My opinion(useless) but you cant make the front segments stiff enough... your trying to make them like a ladder bar... rear clamps are a bit of a crap shoot based on shocks and how well the weight transfers(front)... years ago I clamped a 3/8 thick spring steel plate on the front segments.... BIG difference...and that was with some HD shocks of those days

Mr P Body- 1.47-1.49 60fts have been typical thus far. (Two different tracks as well) Cab- I have braided fuel lines -8 from cell to Holley regulator,3/8 NPT out of regulator, then -6 to both bowls of carb. Fuel pressure set at 7psi (Holley Blue pump) Fram hi performance fuel filter set up(before fuel pump, -8 size in and out through filter and pump) w/ replaceable (spin on type) filter. Carb is box stock(other than jetting) 850-HP- series double pumper (annular boosters).

You may have a fuel delivery issue, try jetting the car up enough to see if you can slow the MPH down in the 1/4, if you can you have enough fuel delivery, if you can't you don't Pure and simple, thier are so many ways for a fuel system to hurt you without you even knowing it so test to make sure that you have enough fuel delivery I'm still learning on what parts to use and whart parts not to use in a drag car fuel system Your 1/4 mile ET and MPH don't match your sixty foot times Good luck Keep us informed

If you check into the Afco shocks, keep in mind that some of the mounting eyes are 1/2 and are not interchangeable.
Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

I managed to find some tube that was right for mine, (11/16) and they seem ok up to now. I use calvert 90/10 shocks on the front and i like them. Mick
