I have been fighting a pull to the left while braking on my /6, '71 Dart Swinger. I have replaced everything on the front brakes. I've got new drums, new shoes, new springs and all hardware, rebuilt wheel cylinders, and new brake hoses. Yet, it still pulls to the left when I use the brakes. This evening I had my brother drive the car while I stood outside. When he hit the brakes hard, I saw a little bit of wheel movement to the rear. What's weird is that it pulls left even when I'm backing up and hit the brakes. What am I overlooking?

Are the front drums adjusted the same amount? I've seen that cause a pull before

If anything, the right drum is tighter. Yet, it still pulls to the left. But, I absolutely hate adjusting drum brakes. How do I even know when they are adjusted correctly? I've tried tightening to the point I can't move the tire then back off the brakes, while having a helper mash the pedal, until I can spin the tire about a half turn. And, I've backed the brakes completely loose then start tightening, again having a helper mash the pedal every so often, until the tire spins about a half turn.

Strut rod bushings...
Well, there's one thing I haven't even thought about. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif) Now that you mention it, the bushings don't look very good. Thanks.
No prob Could be other parts too as mentioned, but strut rod is what came to mind (and one of my Oz Valiants pulled abit and was a bad strut rod bush...changed them out and presto, nice and straight )

I gotta go with reaction shaft (strut rod) bushings as well......and I'm speaking from experience here....lol ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif) They are one item most front end shops commonly overlook. And it's this line from your original post that leads me to this conclusion... "When he hit the brakes hard, I saw a little bit of wheel movement to the rear." The reaction strut bushings are about all that could cause this movement. Remember....all your braking force is transmitted to the chassis through these struts. Sid
