Closing in on finishing my overhaul of my 70 b body dana 60. I came to the point where I needed to install my inner axle seals (national seal #8695 S) and IT WON'T GO IN!!!! What's with this. Also my new wheel bearing ( timken M201047) did not include the retainer band that presses on behind it to hold it on! What's with that? Are these available without buying the bearing?

Parts books don't list the correct number for that seal. Its not the same as the 8 3/4" version. I always tell the parts guy I have '67 Ford HALF TON pickup with 9 3/4" ring gear.

I don't think the lock ring is available separately anymore. You need Set 7 wheel bearings. This kit includes the lock ring.

Thanks Doc, I will check with my local parts store on the seals. Now, anybody know where I can pick up a set of those lock rings?

Thanks Dr. Diff!!

I checked at the local Napa for the 67 Ford 1/2 ton pickup with 9.75 dana. The seals listed for it fit!
They are Napa part # 15142 for those of you who may need them. They are a little smaller than the ones the parts book listed that wouldn't fit, just like the doc said.
Also, some more info for you guys doing your own boogie with a dana 60. I needed a "speedy sleeve" for the yoke (a sleeve that fits over the groove worn in the yoke by the seal and 30 plus years of use). All three parts stores in town listed the sleeve, no one had it in stock, but were glad to order it for me, at the cost of around $25-$30 bucks. I asked a lifelong parts man about a sleeve, he looked at it, says "I think I have what you need" (didn't look it up) walked back up from the back with Carquest # A226-2 sleeve, fit perfect, $6 bucks!!
One last thing, Dr. Diff, the axle bearing locking collar is still available by itself, Timken # K108601 (from A&W Bearing in Texas).
Thanks for the help guys.

I stock those CarQuest speedy sleeves. They are actually intended as a harmonic balancer repair sleeve. They also fit 8 3/4", 9 1/4" and Dana 70 yokes.

Thanks for the lock ring part number.

For anyone else who is building one up piecemeal...

The M201047 axle bearings do not include races (aka cups).

The races/cups are M201011, and have to be ordered separately.

Or just order set 7, and get the whole thing. For some reason I wanted to try doing it one piece at a time instead.

A&W seems like a real good outfit to work with also

I'm hanging on to this thread for awhile.

Edit: verified the correct PN for the inner axle seal is National Oil Seal 51098. Same number is used for BCA branded seals.

Specs are 2.506" OD, 1.5" ID...perfect for a passenger car Dana 60.

I bought mine from CarQuest, P/N A-7.
The are made by BCA from Federal-Mogul made in Japan and include both the inner and outer bearing races plus the press on retaining ring.
