What color would the trans pan on a 904 be originally when it left the factory? It is currently painted black now but I want to say it should be a clear zinc plating.

Any help would be appreciated.

but wouldn't bare steel cause a rust problem which would lead to holes in the trans pan? Weird that they would not put any kind of rust inhibitor on it.

More then likely they figured by the time the pan would rust through the car would be out of warranty and not their problem. I'm not up on my GM and Ford rigs but we not those pans bare metal also?

For the absolute best powder coating go to J.I.T powder coating, contact infomation is in my personal profile..

The steel has some amount of galvanizing so it will take a while to rust through

Really? I haven't had a NOS pan in my possession, but I've never seen anything resembling a galvanized finish on one.
