The answer to your question is "yes" and tell them to scrap the sidepipes while they're at it - those things belong on chebbies, not Mopars!
Oh man i get no love from you guys, but i gotta tell ya the teeming masses of the world love them. Not much time goes by at all when i am out driving that someone wants to tell me how good they look on or sound the car. So at first i was sure i was going to get but not at all it seeems.
Also the sound is addicting in fact so much so i am getting to wonder that maybe all my cars need sidepipes!!

Again I'm not a bodyman but play one on TV. So my question is are they under the clear?
I would think either way they could be taped off, the Black sprayed then cleared and all sanded and rubbed to where it would be undetectable.
Yes everything is under 4 coats of clear. I was thinking if a painter could just tape of the top and paint over the blue. Would all the clear have to be sanded off??

Stu, yes, it can be done and there is absolutely no need to sand off all the clear, because that will only cause more work for no reason, might as well strip it all the way down to metal, lol. Mask the black with fine line tape ( I like the 3M bone color, not the blue one,it leaves way to thick edge) leaving silver exposed, scuff the stripes and the whole bottom of the car, use prep pen http://www.tcpglobal.com/AutoBodyDepot/I...CFcyc7QodbHtYCA to get right up against the edge of the tape, that way the clear won't peel or chip off at the edge when peeling the tape or sanding and buffing. After everything is prepped, step down 1/16"-1/8" run another line of fine line tape. Mask off the silver ,shoot the black, peel the tape off to expose silver, but leaving the 1/16"-1/8" of silver still masked ,then shoot clear. On last coat of clear peel the tape and shoot the bottom of the car along with all of the silver .As soon as you're done shooting the clear ,remove the fine line tape, spray light coat of blending solvent like U-Pol Fade-out spray on the edge to help it flow . Once the clear is safe to sand and buff, knock down the edge with 1200,1500,2000 ,buff and you should have nice smooth surface with no build-up at the tape line. I've done this many times and I know it can be done. The trick is to leave that little strip to keep material from thick build-up at the tape line. And whatever you do,don't use blue fine line tape. It's too thick and causes high build-up. If it's too confusing, let me know and I'll try to explain again.

Thank you for the advice as when i go looking for a shop i want to know what is possible and what is not. So far all the painters i have spoken to say it's not possible due to the paint building up and causing a high spot but know to find someone who can do what you said.

They are just lazy It does take a while to mask . On average it takes me about 6-8 hours to mask for something like that and a few rolls of fine line tape.
Just for the heck of it what would you charge to do a job like i am looking for?? Just so i get an idea of what to expect? Thank you Stu

It's hard to come up with exact figure without seeing it in person, but roughly $4k, as long as there are no repairs or surprises when bumpers and trim removed.
Ok so that's what i was looking for a sort of general number to atleast start with.
Thank you!!
