I use Crane ductile iron rockers and Crane rocker shafts on my 505 and noticed a few marks on the shafts the last time I had them off. So I just ordered a pair of Harland Sharp thick wall hardened rocker shafts because they looked like the best replacements available.
I just read that these shafts have the oil hole drilled right through, i.e. there's a hole at the top and the bottom of the shaft. I guess you couldn't use these with stamped steel rockers but am I ok using them with the Crane rockers?

I have an older set and yes, they are drilled through. Can't see any reason why that would be a problem w/what you're planning...

yes, use the crane rockers and when you can buy the harlan sharp rockers you will be glad you did. The harlam sharp shaft have a banana slot cut across the bottom oil hole. the hardened steel shaft is for using the roller brgs on the harlan sharp rockers.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I should be ok using the Crane rockers on these shafts. The HS rockers are a bit of an overkill for my valve lift but I may get them later on.

I'm not sure that the H.S harden roller rocker shafts are compatable iwth the ductile iron rockers, I would contact them to make sure I've seen issues on many stock steel shafts with ductile iron rockers, they gall up badly usually I've also learned the hard way that you can't use a roller rocker on a non roller rocker shaft Ask once, get it right to start with

Maybe I should give them a call to make sure. Thing is, if they're not compatible with steel shafts, what shafts are they compatible with? Hardened steel shafts must be better than stock mild steel shafts and with holes top and bottom they should get plenty of oil.

There are no banana grooves on BB rockers unless they've changed.

HS shafts are made for their roller bearing rockers - apparently NOT hard-chromed. Other non roller bearing sharfts are apparently hard chromed.

Either way, I can't see the oil holes being an issue.

Got the shafts on Thursday, the oil holes on the top and bottom are the same size and no banana groove. Spent a few days on the lathe making new spacers and hold downs to replaces the springs and stock hold downs and got it back together this morning. Oil pressure is as it was before and there's plenty getting up top.

Man, those are some l-o-n-g adjuster screws !!!! BTW, if those spacers and holddowns are aluminum you'll be wanting to put some steel shims between each and the rocker or your oilpan will fill with aluminum shavings.

The hold downs and spacers are steel and the picture was taken before I set the lash so the studs are right out.
