In my never ending quest to build a car thats different, (spelled oddball) I am looking at installing an E-body automatic slap stick shifter in my 72 Demon in place of the factory floor shifter. It looks like the bracket mounting holes are the same as well as the shifter linkage connection. Looks like it will be a direct swap. Am I overlooking something ????? Anyone ever done this? Problems that they encountered?
Thanx

i've seen it in a car in the junkyard once , i was going to have the tunnel cut out but they crushed it before i could get back for it .

i think if you got a set of brackets for an e body console it should be pretty easy once you get the shifter located . if you are thinking you can put the e body console on the a body brackets ???

the e body console seems a little big for an A body.
I have a slapstick in my 72 cuda and 4 speed in the
70 A body, but looks like the e body is just a little wider to me.

your just wanting to put the slap stick into the a- body correct? keep in mind also, e-bodys had a shorter handle than the a-body and might be a little awkward shifting when its in the car. other than that, I would bet that it would bolt in. also check the outer chrome and shift pattern area to make sure it fits nicley threw the console

The console in my Duster hides a B&M Quicksilver ratchet shifter with a stock appearing stick coming out of it. You'd never know unless you tried to drive it.

Forgot to mention, not going to use either an A or an E body console. Going to fab up something custom. I did notice that it would be a bit shorter than the factory A unit. Might be alright, guess once its in I can see how it feels.

Had a friend that ran a slapstick in his dart. He just made an aluminum console to hold it and his switches.

I have run one and have one sitting in my 67 Barracuda. It does work, BUT the total throw is a little shorter on the slapstick than on the original a-body shifter. I will compensate for this by drilling a new hole where the shifter rod attaches to the rod that goes through the floor. I haven't complaetely determined how much it has to be moved, yet.

Not an A-body, but my 80 Aspen has the T-handle slapstick in it.Can't offer any install tips, it was there when I bought it the FIRST time in '94.

Nothing to see here. Carry on.

There are a couple '68 or '69 Dodge Darts running around St. Louis that have Slap Stick shifters with full B/E consoles in them. (Both cars were done by the same shop.)

I'll see if I can find a picture of the finished product.

If you just want the slapstick, I thought someone made a plate that worked with the factory shifters to make it a slapstik? It was a metal plate that (I think) installed on top of the shifter but under the gear indicator plate.

Someone else should be able to know what I am talking about.

I saw in in mopar collectors guide a few years back - it was around $70 or so

Got it in. I need to fab a console out of something, still working on that. The throw/reach is really pretty good. Looks long, but it feels right. Here is a few pix,
Oh yeah, new floor pans are in as well .

Like I said before the total throw is different. It would not be hard to measure and adjust, though.

Jim, I think the easy solution would be to see if you can just use the E body torque shaft.. (the shaft that passes through the floor & connects the shift rods to the shifter & trans) as it would have the proper geometry...

Yeah, if I had one and you know I'm not gonna pay e-body prices for that part. Not when all it will take is drilling a new hole........

Looks good , is that where the a body shifter was or did you move it back further ? Is it connected to the trans yet ?

Thats good to know did you try dropping a stock A body console over it ? That would blow the minds of the purist if it fit.
