Time to decide ....Install a Borg & Beck, or Diaphragm Clutch. 10.95 going behind Hemi B body. I'm old school. Mainly street driven, with a possible trip to the track. I'm Conflicted! PRO's and CONS ?!

If your going to "granny foot" the car around town, run a diaphram, if you want to "hook it up" BorgBeck is the way to go

I wanted my clutch to feel like it was supposed to, so I went with a borg and beck. Much lighter pedal effort with the diaphram but I think that's about the only advantage.

I ran McCleod 3200 pound B&Bs for years.Went Center Force about 12 years ago.Anyone that say a diaphram dosent hook either dosent have a good clutch or never drove one.My CF hooks even after all these years.Even at the strip it always hooks hard.Best thing I ever did for my 4 speed.Rocky

They did come from the factory with the Borg & Beck clutch. It requires a little more leg effort to hold the clutch peddle down while sitting in traffic, but might be better for racing.

The Diaphragm clutch is easier on the leg and must have the clutch peddle over center spring removed to function properly. It is probably also fine for the occasional trip to the track too.

The Borg & Beck clutch requires increasing peddle effort as the peddle gets closer to the floor. The diaphram clutch has a more consistant feel from the top of the travel to the bottom.

I worked in a Dodge dealership in 1969. I agree they had Borg and Beck. I changed quite a few clutches while they were under warranty. It seems the fingers would break off. Chrysler would only pay for one replacement in their 5year/50,000 warranty or so they told us. I never had it happen to any of my Mopars so i always wondered what caused it.

broken eyebolts! i got sick of it and went to a diaphragm in my 383 road chicken back in the day. i think a diaphragm is a good choice for a 340 or 383. in my opinion, the 440 and hemis are a little pickier. i'd consult a clutch manufacturer to make sure you got good matching parts for a diaphragm in a high torque engine. my experience was that disc choice on a diaphragm set up was important and the 18 spline stuff is better than the 23 spline.

I hade the same problem a when I built my Roadrunner.
I talked to two different Hays sales engineers and neither one was real excited about a clutch for my Hemi , like you I was planning an occasional trip to the track with cheater slicks..
I wound up with a new Ram clutch and flywheel. Stiff pedal feel, but hooks up good with the M&Hs...
As a note, Hays is owned by the Mrgasket/ Mallory group of companies and my next door neighbor's brother was the group manager. he came over one day and was telling me that New pressure plate cover stampings are non existant, out of production, and they had only one person that rebuilt Borg and Beck clutches..
They were buying core covers to rebuild.

I got my clutch kit through American Powertrain. They have a Kevlar disc offering that they claim will handle 600 tq.

Mine is an 18 spline, 10.95", diaphragm style. The 383 will never push it, but it is there if I ever upgrade the engine later. Still getting the car together, so no feedback yet.

A true track clutch you probably want something adjustable, all depends on intended use, power level, etc.

I would call around and see what guys recommend.

383, Hemi 4-Speed, AlterKtion, D60
