I sold my Stock Eliminator Duster and bought a Stock Eliminator '77 Aspen. I took it out to the track for the first time Saturday night. I immediately found a big problem. The brake pedal has about 1/4" free play and it is rock hard to push down. I tried to leave at 3200 on the two step and the car pushed thru the lights. I can not put enough pressure on the pedal to hold the car. I finally made a pass without pushing thru the lights by foot braking it a 2200.
I called the former woner and he said he likes a firm pedal. He weighs 205 and I weigh 150, so his leg is obviously a lot stronger than mine.
I can not drive the car like this. I need suggestions on how to get more pedal free play and to make the pedal softer so I can pump the brakes up. Does this sound like a problem with the master cylinder? The car has a light weight Master that looks like one out of a late 90's truck. The rod from the pedal was too ling so there is a 1/4" spacer between the master and the firewall. The rod is one of the MP adjustable rods that is already cut as short as possible.
Any ideas will sure be appreciated.
Raul
Put a smaller bore master on it... will give you better braking and easier pedal with a bit more travel... You might need a adjustable brake rod or make one

Contact Cass at www.doctordiff.com and talk to him. He can set you up with the correct master cylinder and the correct pushrod. There is no reason to use a cheesy, hacked up brake system. The correct parts are available to make it work and make it safe.

When I went to a 4 wheel disc MC from a '96 Mustang (1 1/16 bore), I mounted the MC on the upper two holes, drilled a new hole in the pedal and made an adjustable rod. When I moved the rod pivot up on the pedal, I did a couple of drawings in excel to ensure I would have enough rod travel versus the pedal travel.
