if you are using barton valve covers they will probably hit the shock tower when the motor is installed. it might not be a bad idea to modify the shock tower before you install the motor. here is a pic of what i had to do to my ebody to get the covers to clear.

compare it to the unmodified drivers side. i basicly moved the shock mounting hole about 1" to the outside of the car and removed the bump for the shock. i also remove about 1/2 of the bumps for the upper control arms for additional header clearance.

If you have the heavier, thicker Barton valve covers they are wider and you might as well remove both because they will not allow enough clearance to install the engine from the bottom. The thinner stamp steel stock covers just give you enough by removing just the passenger side. Are you using a bendix power brake booster ? If you are bring the engine up into the engine bay just enough then reinstall the driver side cover before the K-member makes contact with the frame rails. This way the engine will be low enough and will not give you problems installing the valve cover. Big tip, use a plumb bob to square up the k-member with the frame rails, center off the bolt holes. this will get you close.

Take this advise, he is absolutely right. I had to remove the sheet metal valve cover on my 66 Coronet. Also, the hold off valve on the late model brake proportioning valve can cause interferance on the DRIVER side. The plumb bob is also good advise, saved alot of lineup time.

I agree totally those Barton valve covers are really wide and will cause clearance issues. Do the measuring and make the changes and re-do paint work now if you expect to use those covers.

What covers will fit with my roller rocker set up. If the Barton /Stage v covers don't clear my shock tower. I really don't want to get into paint work. We are going to attempt the install this Sat.

i am using mopar performance cast covers on my 572 hemi with a old mopar siamese bore block. they hit the un-modified shock tower under acceleration. i am using shumacher conversion mounts on this car.

IMHO a Hemi needs no valve covers on it to in from underneath. It's too easy to hit them on things as they just make the engine wider, period. I dont understand the big deal, as it's not hard to put the covers on afterwards....except for the passenger side heater hoses.

When we put my Hemi In my Dart, I took both valve covers off and had plenty of room.....and that was in a Dart!!
