I have a stock 1971 340 auto Cuda, the car would run fine for alittle, then start to hesitate, then cut out. I would be able to start the car right up, but it would continue to repeat this hesitation and cut out with more frequency. I was out at my friends and had to turn back, it wasn't going to make the hour and a half drive back. He offered to rebuild the carb and did with the purchase of a rebuild kit. The car now has a fast idle, smokes upon first start up and continues until the car is warmed up, but the idle doesn't fully calm down. After about a half hour of driving,it is hesitating, though not as bad as before and not cutting out.
Is this a matter of adjustment, a rebuild that isn't quite right, or time to buy a Holley and put this on the shelf ?
This car has been the most dependable car I have EVER owned and this frustrates me. I am leaning towards a Holley to save on time, grief, and for the dependability.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks!

One of the best carbs IMO. No rocket science either, so if you do a little research, you should be able to cure any problems that might come with it by yourself.

This might help:

Or you could ask Demonsizzler (if he is still in business)

I agree....I had rethe carb rebuilt back in 1995(just found the receipt) and never had any issue with it until last year. Until then, I loved it.
Thanks for the link for the 1972 thermo quad info....question, aside from the angled adjustment screws in front on the 1971, is the carb the same in 1972 as far as the ajustments, etc ?
Thanks for the help guys!!
