Whats the deal with 1970 slap stick shifters? I have two of them and one has slap stick printed on the bottom of it and the other does not? If I had to guess I would say the early cars may not have had it but I am not sure. Any help would be great thanks. I have posted pics of both.

Are you sure the first one pictured isn't from a mid-'70s Cordoba/Magnum/etc.?

Are the mounting points the same?

There are a few '70-'74 E & '71-'74 B "SLAP STICK" shifter indicators that say "SHIFT GATE" ..... anyone know the WHY? WHEN? WHO? WHAT? & WHERE? concerning those?

This pic is marked as early 70 cuda{?}...Supposedly the "no script" version was a 70 piece also...Later versions had the slap stick script...

Slap Stick is printed on all 1970 to 1972 lenses. The exception was on some cars built before Oct 16th 1969. In 1973 the Slap Stick word was removed.

My Sept 69 built Challenger is one of the ones that does not say Slap Stick.

I've got a fairly late build 73 Challenger with a 4/2/73 SPD. Bought the car when it was 6 mos. old, so I'm reasonably sure the shifter is original to the car, and it has the Slap Stik lettering.

There are no for sure rules, and exceptions to everything, but in general those dates should be close. What we know is that there was both used for sure.
