This a new or maybe rebuilt torque converter that I bought at a swap meet about 25 yrs ago. It was in a factory box but there is no part number on the box. At that time I though it was for a 360 motor, but now I'm thinking that it is for a internally balance motor or a "neutral balance" converter.
The picture shows the only balance weight on it. There is also a sticker on the converter with the number 4057396. That may be the part number??

Does this look like a converter for a externally balanced motor or is for a internally balanced motor?

Internally balanced, I think.
The weight you see in the first pic is the balance for the converter itself.

Balance weights for externally are on the ring gear area IIRC.

A while back I had a 71 GTX that had a externally balanced 440 and as I recall the counter weights were welded to the back side of the converter near the flex plate mounting tabs. As you can see my the photo. There are no weights on that side. So I guess I could use this converter in my 70 340 Cuda. I also just noticed that the converter does not have a drain plug....

All that can be told from the pics is it's a neutral-balanced 11" converter. The 4057xxx number dates from about the '77-'79 era so it could be a lockup; only a spline count can determine if it's lockup or not.
