moparacer OP master Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 2,505 PA	I have a 400 Block with aluminum main caps with ARP studs. What is the torque spec on the mains with ARP studs and aluminum caps? I was told 110lb but when I checked clearances they are way too tight at 110lbs. as tight as .0015 on a couple of the mains. Sport440 master S Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 6,591 Canton, Ohio	The torque values are for the studs or bolts you are using. Thats what you need to go by. If your to tight Fully torqed to specs then you will need a line hone with said caps installed to the proper fasteners torque values. You dont back off torque to get more clearence.

jamesc master J Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 5,875 communist bloc of new jersey	i guess this isn't much help but they should be torqued to the spec that was used when the main bore was finished, hopefully they used the correct torque whatever that was supposed to be. the lubricant used during torquing has a big effect as well. ARP lists those studs as 200k tensile, they list default torque specs as 122/95 for 190K studs and 135/105 for 220K studs. upper numbers with 30wt, lower numbers with moly

So true.............a buddy of mine was assemblng a 350 chevy(poor soul )and the crank wouldn`t turn torqued to spec so he loosened the mains till it did then drove it and needless to say, it grenaded..........line hone is your friend here. 72 Dart 470 n/a BB stroker street car `THUMPER`...Check me out on FB Dominic Thumper for videos and lots of carb pics......760-900-3895.....
