Like the title says, I was wondering if there was a way to lower the part throttle shift points of an A500 trans. The trans is in my 78 Fury, and Im using the same throttle pressure linkage and lever as the 727 that came out of the car. The trans always winds out to at least 2000rpm before shifting, no matter how easy you are on the gas. The stock 727 used to shift at around 1600 under the same conditions and rate of acceleration. At WOT, it is perfect at around 5200 or so. The trans is all stock with the exception of a blocker rod in the accumulator, which obviously wouldnt change anything. Its just more of an annoyance than anything, since theres no real reason for it to wind up so much before it shifts, and Im sure its affecting gas mileage. Ive played with the TP linkage and it will shift at the same points at part throttle, but will remove firmness from the shifts if backed off. Do I have to change the weights in the governor to accomplish this? The trans is originally out of a 95 3.9 Dakota. Is that just when they shift? The 46RE in my 2000 Dakota R/T does pretty much the same thing....maybe a few hundred RPM lower, but not much. Will 904 governor pistons/parts interchange since this trans is based on a 904?

sounds to me like the minimum Throttle pressure setting on the valvebody is set too tight. Easy to adjust if the pan is off. First I would verify that the linkage/trans lever is returning all the way. Disconnect it down at the trans and see if it changes. Don't go too far like that and dont boot it

The 727 TP linkage usually won't work correctly on a 904/A500, it won't allow the transmission lever to fully return forward at idle; this positions the lever too far back at part throttle settings and makes for late shifts.

You need to configure the linkage so that the trans lever is full forward at idle and NEAR full back at WOT.
