was just at another site where someone was having problems with new performance wheels fitting their stock rotors. someone suggested that an aftermarket brake assembly may solve the problem.

well i'm unfortunately able to say this is not necessarily the answer.

last week i was happy when my new Strange pro brake kit and weld prostar wheels showed up.

then the usual "aftermarket part syndrome" rears it's constant ugly head. the freakin hubs won't fit into the wheel. now i understand many performance parts are expected to have final clearancing done but for crying out loud hubs and wheels? this stuff makes me sick, i'm fortunate that i have the ability to machine either the hubs or the wheels but having to carve up $1100 worth of new parts makes me want to

i guess strange never figured anyone would put weld prostars on their brakes and weld figured no one would ever do something so odd as to try to mount their wheels on a strange brake assembly.

sometimes i hate this stuff beyond words

This is what makes me think about quitting, when every part you buy , expensive or not, needs some work before it even fits

just to make sure i wasn't shooting my mouth off without cause i went and actually measured things.

the shoulder on the strange hub measures 3.243" and the hole in the weld wheel measures 3.180".

not that it's your case but someone could easily just throw these wheels on these hubs and not notice it but the wheel does NOT seat properly on the hub. i'm gonna hafta put the wheels in the mill and open up the holes.

When you tryed the wheel on the hub was the rotor on the hub?? I'm asking because there is a small register for the rotor to center on and that may be what is not going in the wheel.

I have Weld draglites and Willwood 11" rotors on the back and they fit, tight clearance but they fit. The instructions in the brake kit does say may not fit all wheels so I was worried a little when my rear was being done.

is it the wheels or the hub's that are wrong? did you check size on another wheel? would it be easier to turn the hub down in the lathe rather than machine the wheel, I would be inclined to find which one is at fault and correct that, might prevent another headache later on.just thinking out loud

uh-oh

well don't i just feel like a flaming A hole.

no i didn't have the rotor on the hub and that's why things didn't fit properly...man how embarrassing

the register that i "thought" wasn't fitting in the wheel is only as tall as the thickness of the rotor

i guess it just becomes the norm that everything you get requires some type of modification it's almost expected.

in this case i was flat wrong and have a big plate of crow in front of me.

thanks for saving me from myself

i'm gonna go crawl back in my hole now

At least you are man enough to admit it.

I work with some people who are never wrong. Even when you show them they are, they can't admit it.

Before you do that, ask around some more. If the issue is the strange hubs have too big a center dia, it would make them fit more wheels to reduce the hub center dia. But if the wheel hold dia is too small, then enlarge that.

The only thing I can add is I just measured the hole in two sets of my old Weld wheels (Drag Lites) and it is ~3.15" ID.

At least you didn't cut anything yet. Good to bounce ideas past others.

ironic you should say that

about a year ago some wonderful coworkers screwed up a job.
i walked into it and despite the fact that the absolutely, totally incompetent manager (and everyone else) knew full well they were responsible (he even stated this fact to one of guilty) they held me responsible and i was sacrificed to appease men of no character.

moparts won't let me post the words i'd like to, let me just say the complete lack of integrity of these prize individuals cost me a $100k a year job at a company i had 16 years with. so now at the age of 51 i'm out of a high paying job in the worst employment environment since the great depression.

there are two types of people...those that screw up and admit it, those that screw up and lie about it

it's not a complicated thing, when you're wrong man up and own it

guess i'm just old school

I work in a factory where guy's will screw up somthing and then blame the next guy, thats why I mark my parts with a letter or number and when somthing go's wrong, I can tell which ones I did and which ones my dipstick partner did, saved my tail more than once even when a part had my mark I would man up and claim the mistake, and the boss would appreciate my honesty.
