hi!

I was about to rebuild my 8,75 sure grip and turns out one of the discs is missing in my rebuild kit.

Its one of the flat cross shaped discs.

I was thinking about fabbing one myself.

What kind of material should I use?

thanks

Domingo

The 8.75 clutch type Sure Grip is a Spicer Powr Lock. Dana-Spicer is all around the world and they may even have distributors in your country. You may be able to get something from a local source.

I wont be able to get it locally, and if I were, i bet they will have to import the part....i can import it myself...would be cheaper and faster...

however, I bought the complete kit and it seems that either at customs or somplace one of the discs fell out of the box.

I can sure make the missing disc myself since it is one of the flat ones with no spline indentations. However, I would like to know what material should I use to fab it.

Regular steel plate will work (not mild steel)? Do I have to harden it?

I would use (hardened) T1 steel plate.

This is the one that I need.

It's the thinnest gauge one of the hole pack (there are 2 of these in the kit, i am missing one). Its flat.

Domingo is that a new one or your OLD one in that picture ? If it's the old one the thin one is usually against the end of the stack and one side is against the case and sees no wear because it is keyed to the case , just flip it over ...

Oh I didnt see your post.....

Well, I thought about doing that, But I can see the old ones are a bit worn to the point where they are somewhat thinner than the ones that came in the kit???? Thats what I decided against using them.

If the one in the picture above is the one you have it doesn't appear to be that worn ?

You do realize that there are 2 THINNER plates than the rest and those are the ones at the ends of the case?

I bought a kit , can't remember if it was MP or spicer, but it didn't come with the thin plates. I just flipped the 2 thin ones over, the only wear is in the center but I did lap them to make sure there weren't any high spots.

Considering where you live and the cost of shipping it something to look at.

Yes, you are right...

I will take the best one of the 2 I have and just flip it over and lap it to make sure its flat.

Thanks!
