I am 65 and have atrial fibrilation. My DAD was 24 when he was diagnosed and just passed away this year at 91. My problem is the NHRA plays games with my licensing. Because of the AFIB I can only get a 1 year license. The NHRA will not license you if you are on coumadin (blood thinner typically used to deal with AFIB). The NHRA Western Office tells me they have an approved blood thinner medication but won't tell me what the prescription is!!!! Does anyone have a AFIB, holds a current competition license form the NHRA and is on a prescription blood thinner? Please respond with the name of the prescription. Thanks

I can't help you with the RX. But the herb chickweed is a natural blood thinner and will also reduce cholestrol. Jim

I wouldn't call it "games" The NHRA knows something after 60 years, they have been around the block a few times, they know what's best for safety.

Good luck to ya.

Perhaps, but they know of a drug that can help a racer comply with nhra requirements and they wont tell him what it is, they are playing games, or they're just full of crap. I think probably the latter.

Maybe the OP should go see his doctor and ask him or her, not us on a car site.

Maybe the person he talked to at NHRA really didn't know the name of the drug they allow.
If they suggested it they would like a doctor, don't you think?

You might try to contact Dr Jeremy Torstivite (spelling?) He writes health related articles in national dragster. I'll look for his email address.

No Challenger there was no mistake on the NHRA employee's part. I questioned her several times and she advised the NHRA physician would not allow her to provide the name of the medication(s) on the "approve list"! I also have been treated by three prominent heart specialists who have no idea what the NHRA may have as an approved medication.

Got it wise ass. Your replys provided nothing so keep them to yourself.

As for being an OP I have a car that requires a competition license if I run it all out, do you?

I also drive a my Viper in NARRA and they are not jerks. Afib is very common and I am at far greater danger of bleeding to death in an accident from a highway mishap than I am on any race track.

Coumadin or Warfarin - blood level monitoring and reversible with drugs

Newer:

Pradaxa - no monitoring levels, but no specific way to reverse in the event of a major bleeding

Not sure why NHRA would block Coumadin users, when Pradaxa would be more of a problem in an accident

Those were the two choices I had this past weekend, was not told about any others so no Idea what NHRA would allow?
