Only real way to tell is if it has the cast pistons with 4 valve reliefs and 3 bolt timing chain. If out of a '70, it will have F440Hp or HP2 stamped on the id pad up top. The VIN stamping on the passenger side oil pan rail will be stamped 0B***** if it was in fact out of a '70 'Cuda or Challenger. The "big" balancer was used on all 440 4bbl Hi-Po and 6bbl engine starting in 1970-1972. The end carbs should be 4382 and 4383 (center #'s were different depending on tranny). The block part # is the same for all '70 440's. The 440-dash # is the core shift IIRC.
So after all that please tell me how a person would know its a "real 440-6" vs one that was just put together with the above parts?????

Ha! Thats what thought? Its suppose to have a 4speed trans to go with it. Also (you guys are going to flip) There;s suppose to be a 72 Road Runner sitting there also with a 440 with the Edelbrock 6pak intake thats also 100% complete, AND its suppose to have 4speed too, BUT its rusted real bad.
I will take pics IF this turns out to be a real find and not someones pipe dream.

Tranny will prove nothing, only that it DID or DID NOT come with the engine block. and they DID make 440-6 Automatic cars too!!!

Who knows what Im going to find but hey, when someone tells you of somthing you gotta check it out!

The only way to know if the engine is a REAL Six Pack engine is to verify the VIN matches a REAL Six Pack car. There are no markings/casting #'s/stampings that are exclusive to Six Pack engines. Parts... yes.
becareful , those hawking HP2 blocks as 6pk blocks for big money aren't going to like that.
to the OP if the engine is UNMOLESTED there is a way to determine that is COULD be an original 6pk engine , but you would have to partially disassemble it to find out , if it's already apart and the guy doesn't have a valid REAL title to the original car all bets are off .
