Is there anyone out there having experience of building a low rev sb stroker? I need a new engine for my 70 cuda vert and I have started thinking of how nice it would be having a LA 408 built for low end power. 360 blocks are very cheap and the stroker kits are available from many sources. I want an engine producing power from idle, giving maximum hp output at say around 4500 rpm. An engine like that should not need expensive parts like alu heads and exotic valve train, rods and pistons. It should probably be easy on gas too and be able to work with something like 2.76 in the rear. Let me hear your opinions folks!

There are a couple of articles in the tech archives on the subject. http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/smallblock.htmlI did a 427 inch SB a couple of years ago that was built for torque rather than peak power. We wanted an engine that had a torque curve like a Viper and that was what we ended up with. 427 cubic inches in a resto 340 block with CNC ported Edelbrock heads and a roller cam. It went into a '68 Valiant and it scares the pee out of me when I ride in it. That car goes 155+ mph at Portland International down the front straight. That is a little too fast in a 40 year old car!

Andy:
Your article was posted here a couple of weeks ago and I had a look at it. Have a question: Was the Valiant ever run back to back against a Viper?
To the OP: BPE should be able to set you up with a 4.25 crank that'll up the torque even more. The cubic inches can get to 440.

You going to run drag radials? nothing worse than building a torque monster that wont hook and cant beat a new v6 stang or challenger light to light
Maybe I havent been clear enough. I dont want to put in a lot of money in this engine, and therefore I'm not looking for lots of power. But still enough power to have snappy response and lots of power handy for passings or just for fun. Upon that I want to do it inexpensive! 360 block stroker kit from Scat, Ohio Crank or ..? Magnum heads? Intake? Maybe the 1970 340 cast # 3462848 that I have? Carb? The original 4 bbl Carter I have on that intake, or maybe a vacuum 650? Cam? Cast iron manifolds 2 1/4" full exhaust
I would not spend the money on the stroker kit if your going to use stock intake, carb, exh manifolds and 2 1/4". i would build a strong 360 in the 375hp range, stock crank and rods will do fine, with a cam in the low 220's at .050 range, and shoot for good CR like 9.75 to 10.2. my 360 in a heavy demon with about 400 hp pulled a 1.66 60' with 26" slicks, just a 3.91. but with a good converter. spend the money you save with the stroker on a better converter. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif)
