This posistion is available in Canton, Ohio. Please pass it on to anyone that may be interested.

THANKS MOPARTS!

We are currently looking for a qualified and experienced automotive machinist and engine builder to join our team. We have one of the largest and busiest engine machine shops in Stark County. We do most all brand and types of engines imaginable. We currenty have four full time employees and our constant back log of work is making it necessary for us to offer this position to better serve our large and loyal customer base.
If you are a gearhead and have experience working on engines, this position may be just for you. We are looking for a machinist that is able to accurately bore and hone blocks with a Sunnen CK-10, recondition connecting rods, deck blocks, run a flywheel and surface grinder, run an oven and tumbler cleaning system, and occasionally do valve jobs and cylinder head work. Having experience and desire to do detail oriented work on performance type engines is a plus, as is the ability to mock up, blueprint and build engines. We do a lot of performance and racing engines and strive for quality over quantity.
Some perks and benefits of our shop include a laid back and friendly atmosphere- fairly low stress, a climate controlled comfortable environment to work in year round-central air!, paid uniforms, paid vacation and sick days, optional insurance and retirement investments, and most importantly the stability and security of being family owned and operated-in business since 1980. We work 8am-5pm Monday-Friday. No weekends, no holidays and no overtime.
Job requirements include the following: EXPERIENCE AND PRIDE IN YOUR WORK AND NO COMEBACKS ! Also, the ability to accurately run at least half of the following equipment and the willingness to learn whatever you don't know from one of our very experienced machinists: a Sunnen CK-10 boring/honing and align honing machine, Van Norman surface grinder, Sunnen connecting rod equipment, Peterson head shop or Souix valve and seat grinding equipment, Bayco oven and Steelabrator shot cleaner, etc. Although not a requirement, the ability to assemble engines is an added asset. This is a drug free workplace.
We want someone who is looking for a career and a place to retire from, we do not want someone just looking to punch a time clock. We would really like someone who is under 55 and looking to put in at least 10 more years, as the owner is looking to put in another 25-30 years. It never gets dull at our shop, everyday is something different. We currently are working on engines for drag race, circle track, street performance/muscle car, sport compact. marine, truck and tractor pullers. That is not to mention the dealer and garage work made up of all brands of daily driver engines. If this type of job and work place is for you, please give us a reply email or call at (330)456-3045 and ask for Jeff.

Sounds like an awesome job! If I knew how to operate half of the equipment you have listed I'd be on your doorstep in a New York minute. Good luck with your search and I hope to get down to see your operation in the near future.

Well he does say "we would like" so I'm sure it's not a requirement.

Not if your under 55, but really I know two local guys who have done it most there life, shop owners and its a rough labor intensive job day in and day out.

One shut down, the other does personal work for people. They are just gimped up from year after year, day after day... So the 55 part is esy to understand as much as it sucks I understand why they would not want a already half gimped up worker.

Didnt say if over 55 a med exam would be needed....but might be smart for the employer, no one wants a big work comp claim after a year on the job.

This is not a dig on the older folks, sounds like a great job but I were 55...heck no.

Dom,

A word of advice perhaps. I own/run a shop, I have also managed employees in other business', so this is from a owner/manager point of view.

If I posted a job offering, and someone replied to me that they are interested, BUT, then asked me to call THEM, I'd throw their name in the garbage can. I am the one offering the job, its not MY responsibility to call YOU!.

Pick up the phone and call Jeff....not the other way around. If you ran a shop, you'd understand he doesnt have time to chase people down...way too many things to worry about other than that.

and to the posters talking about age, yes it can be a brutal job for the knees and back. It aint baking cupcakes, thats for sure. Be ready to work long hours and you better have a passion for the work.

Just my from an experienced point of view.

Good luck to you, and good luck to Jeff on finding a suitable employee

The add says would like somone under 55. He didn't say he was refusing anyones app over 55. I think you are reading into this to deep. This would be a very good job for a younger ambtious person to get accepted into. I do machine work, i'm over 55 and feel the aches and pains of my past. I can put out quality, it's the quantity, quality and warranty on the quantity for long term that is required. When you strive to be #1 in your area, you don't want to deal with stepping into #2

Thats because you are too tall... Us short guys last longer and don't break down as often. And if we do happen to fall, we are closer to the ground.

All kidding aside, As a shop owner for more than 25 years, I wouldn't hesitate for one moment to hire an older guy for a machine shop operation. Heck, I am, almost 50 years old and I still work circles and am stronger than anyone I have ever had working for me-including the 20 somethings . Aside from the experience, you really don't need great physical strength to perform automotive machine shop operations. If you need help lifting/moving something, use a proper tool(hand truck/hoist or whatever) or get someone to give you a hand. A well respected local shop near here is run by a guy who is probably around 70 and his main dyno operator is 75, sharp as a tack, and forgot more than most guys will ever know. He also still builds engines. You just gotta let them use the bathroom more often.

You can find all that out by doing an internet search of the Starke County/Canton, Ohio area. By doing so, it will demonstrate to the prospective employer that you are a self-starter, and possess intellectual curiosity.

Thats Stark County, Dave!

Dom, come on up! you would fit in fine. Precision Automotive is a very small shop, but they are mopar biased. Jeff and his dad run some max wedge cars.

Jeff is the son being groomed to take over the business someday. He trys really hard too! I think he needs to relax a little and be more like his dad, like a regular mopar guy. But , I still give him a

The Economy is bad up here but getting better. We have Tons of Bars! Probably the most in any one area in the whole USA. Thats good, great band action

The weather sucks up here, we have tons of cloudy days from the lake effects above us.

Rents around $550 to $650 for a two bedroom. Housing is around, depending on what you want 20,000 to 350,000. On average 120,000 Pay scale, around $15.00 bucs an hour on average. More for skilled jobs, I dont see Precision paying much more then that, maybe $20 or so max for what there looking for.

Sounds good to me except for the weather part plus I already made a fool of myself apparently by posting my number and asking them to call me but hey, it`s worked many times before. Guess you eastern boys are a bit more stern....................

Nope, you didnt make a fool of yourself. That shows confidence, some employers look for that too.

Fact is, even with the huge unemployment. It can still be hard to find good people.
