1971 'Cuda 440 block 512 stroker. New wiring harness from the firewall forward.

Ok, got a new problem here. The ignition key started acting up. I went to a car show this weekend (won first place by the way lol) and when I turned the key, nothing happened. I backed up the key and tried again and the car fired right up, so I drove it home with no problems. Today I went to start the car and again nothing. No solenoid click, nothing. I fiddled with the key release lever and the slap stick shifter, still nothing. I just happened to turn the steering wheel and it locked, turned the key, steering wheel unlocked, and the car started right up. I shut the car off and tried to restart, nothing. I held the key down and started moving the steering wheel back and forth and I got the starter to hit a couple of of times but never long enough to get the engine to start. just a very short starter hit. That only happened two times and now I can't get anything. I have never gotten just a click and I only got the starter to turn over twice with the steering wheel and never enough to actually start the engine. The horn works. The head lights and dome light works. Heck, even the key buzzer works when I open the door.

Has anyone ever seen this before or have any ideas?

Thanks

Can yu say ignition switch is going bad It is electrical so it is either the ignition switch or the wiring in the steering column. Is the switch the one that was in the car new? If any doubt change it out The ignition lock and ignition switch are two different parts, the key goes in the lock, the lock activates the switch There are several small cooper contacts in the switch that wear out with use IHTHs

Go toward end of col and seeif ignition switch wiring is burnt usually it is a 10 or 12 gauge wire but I have seen more then on that is corrode or hot/ burnt looking at the center of the plastic connection Make sure your ground are good and does the car have a clutch safety switch if its a stick? That will do the same thing
