The factory called for 90 wt with suregrip additive. If its for cruising and/or DD and/or occasional drag 80W90 with sure grip additive would be fine. I've had good results with the additive Autozone sells.

There are lots of other choices. For sustained hard running, higher viscosity like 80W140 can help with synthetics being even better. For economy and the last 1/10'th of a tenth, a lighter multi-visocsity synthetic like 70W-90 may help. Personally, I value protection over that last little bit of performance or economy and run the heavier lubes.

If it has a clutch type SG unit, use the real strong smelling green additive. You can find it at your local Ford dealer. No one else sells it to my knowledge. It is THE recommended fluid for these units. Some of the other brands will cause the unit to chatter. Disregard the gear lube that "needs no additives". You will surely get a chatter if you use those.

You have been warned though. DO NOT let any of that stuff touch your hands, your clothes or anything else that you dont want to destroy forever. You will never get the smell off. Your wife or girlfriend will probably kick you out of the bedroom for at least a month.
