my temp gauge was acting a bit erratic, so I purchased a new sender, upon install it was reading way higher then what was possible for the time the engine had run,high In the hot zone,in less then 1 minute, are there more then one type of sensor??, 69 rr, thanks

They read on resistance, it's quite possible your sender is faulty. I'd try another one.

Temp sender should read 80 ohms (or higher) when cold, and it would read 10 Ohms when it was fully hot, to make the gauge read the highest mark. If you disconnect the wire from the sender then you can measure the resistance of the sender to ground.
