I am a firm believer in the Smoth Brother's product! I had a rocker that wasn't oiling, and it ate the end of one of my Smith Bro's push rods. They were 5/16" diameter. I had a set comp 3/8" push rods the right length, so I put one in to replace the Smith Bro one that had the end eaten off. One run up to 6000rpm on the dyno, and the comp push rod just wrinkled.

Fast, friendly service and a product that is the preverbial "anvil in the desert". What more could you ask for?

Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

You need to thank yourself for giving them the correct measurements. I hear all good about them. I used Manton which work good also and gave me great service. Ron

I have a massive set of them in my silly street driven toy. The talk of Smith Bros on this forum was enough for me to want them... overkill x100, but I wanted them, haah!

Plus, they make great cough drops! I hope their long, fluffy beards don't get caught in the machinery.

I must be the one that Murphy loves, I've had multiple problems with Smith Bros pushrods, breaking, burning up thier pushrods and adjusters and so on I am a dealer for both Mantons and Smith Bros, I'll only use Smith Bros products on flat tappet cams when the customer insist on them, every thing else gets Mantons

I love My smithys, After a number of issues getting the CORRECT length from you know who, I finally ate the big bullit, called Dan at perf only, he got me the Correct length the first time, and the smith bros are also a perfect fit. Didnt mind the manton stuff, but man oh man what a disaster getting them the correct length, but that wasnt entirely their own fault.

I'm more than happy with mine too. And the customer service.

Word of advice for anyone ordering custom sizes.

ORDER AN EXTRA OR TWO!!

Never know when you'll need one, and being a custom size, your chevy buddy probably won't have a spare.

The number of threads showing isn't the whole picture - it's just easy to remember.
Depending on the design, the ball may have considerable stem length before the thread starts (as yours shows). Here, the shortest practical length (leaving some wiggle room for wear) is the height of 1-2 threads (not actual threads) below the rocker, if that lets the cup clear the body. If you have 3/8-24, 2 threads is about .083", much closer to the rocker than you show - which raises the ratio.
Note: it's also helpful to have enough thread showing to release the pushrod, which means (roughly) the ball radius.

I would guess he did the geo and saw that a shim was a needed correction. If yes, it's still needed (although I'd prefer a shim under the pedestal).

Long ago I started to seat new pushrods to new adjusters to insure a near perfect fit in the cups. I put the adjuster in a drill press and apply some valve grinding compound in the cup. Spin the drill and you can see the exact area of contact gain in size. what you want to see is a nice wide band of contact. The two stay as a pair after that. Why and what happens when this is done ? When you make some pulls or passes and go back for that final adjustment check there will be little or no change in lash that got larger that you normally would see .

I used shims to correct the geometry.
I'm not an expert but I tried with the knowledge I have to build the best motor I can.
With the shims I can correct the geometry.
May be more expensive solution but I can't afford it
See actual pattern geometry...

Nice work...looks like very good geometry.

Good luck with the engine!
