It's been a while, but I just used to turn the bolt out, it sort of acted as a puller for the housing, take things off as an assembly, clean things up, re-assemble the reverse, no need to remove nipple. Probably I am just lazy...OK, no probably about it...
It takes gasoline to interest me.

Step 1. Buy new pipe Step 2. Destroy old one trying to get it out. Step 3. Install new pipe I've never been able to get one out without destroying it...

I agree you will need heat.Ive never taken one out without using heat.Ive also pulled a bunch without taking the pipe out.Just get all the bolts out.Leave a long one in just as a support. Then just turn the one out behind the tube. Its slow but they will come out.The bolt and pump will just keep going foward.Rocky

I'm not taking the housing off, it doesn't leak. I'm taking the alternator bracket off and one of the bolts that holds it on is behind the pipe for the heater hose, so the bolt has to come out.
Going to try taking it today and see what happens....

Shove a tapered pry bar or punch into the nipple hole to keep it from collapsing and then use a pipe wrench or big Vise-Grips to spin it out.
