To illustrate the point Scott was making, heres the same Demon from the Scat Pack brochure, no emblem.

you cant go by any of the old dodge advertising photos, here are a few that show emblems and fender decals air brushed, also a 1070 chicago auto show car with the hood blacked out different than the adds.

My Demon had the emblem on the driver's side. I have never bothered to clean off the remains of the adhesive. I believe the hood and paint are original. I know that it's been repainted from the stripes down at least twice.

I believe this car is supposed to be a survivor. I know, like mine, it's not equipped with the sport hood option, but it does show placement of the emblem.

Here is a pic of my demon j54 car from may 1975, it sure looks like there is a emblem on the drivers side. this is a scanned photo from the original that the owner still has, he had the car from 1973 to 79 notice the hood blackout does not have the border and also the inner upper doors are also matte black. the car was painted about a year after he sold it. i Guess i should get in touch with him and ask him to view his original photo and also to dig way back and try to remember. BTW this was an SPD April 2.

This one is original

I have a friend with one nearly identical to that one. Has had it since early eighties. Been parked for years. Sometimes inside. Not sure of black hood, but has scoops and pins I believe.
Definitely not in that condition tho! A/C car I think.
I think it has all its original sheetmetal, next weekend if he is home I will try to get a look at it.

It takes gasoline to interest me.

Well the emblems were used on some of the demons with sport hoods. If you look at December 2011 Muscle car review page 16&17 the muscle car review, it shows Mr Norm standing with a demon picked up by Steve Green for a story published in may of 71. The Demon has the emblem and also the blackout without the border. So maybe towards the end of the 71 run they were using them along with a different stencil for the hood paint (i would bet that demon has a SPD after january), or maybe the emblem was used on vinyl top cars, or ones that had the rallye wheels or or....?????

Off Alaskan T/As site:

B5 blue unrestored 71 Demon with scoops and hood black out

This car is clearly original paint. Used to be owned by a friend of mine here in PA. He bought it in the early 80s from the original owner.

Its like the trunklid emblems on 72 Demons, some say Dodge, some say Dodge Dart.

Or the Plymouth emblem on 71 Duster trunk lids, some have it some don't.

Same car 'done' at the bottom of that page also, it looks like someone forgot to put it back on.

if you look close you can see where the emblem was

Also notice the hood bezels are chrome and so is the (base model) D. side mirror. I have noticed that original cars with painted sport mirrors and/or hood blackout also had black scoop bezels while those with no blackout and/chrome mirrors had chrome bezels.

The problem is that so many of the smaller details on the A-body cars have been added or changed by thier owners that many of the smaller details are lost in time, very few unmolested examples still exist to study.
