The car looks to be charging fine when it's setting and no acccesories on. When you give the car gas it makes the amp gauge move from center closer to the maxed out charge section. When cars at idle and you turn the lights on it show it discharging. Could this be a bad alt or voltage regulator? Also wanted to note that battery has a full charge. I took a volt meter to the battery when running and no accesories on and touched it to the battery post and I got a reading of 12.8.

If you got a volt reading of 12.8 with the car running, I'd say you're not charging. If your alt. is working and charging properly you should be around 13.5 to 14.5 volts. If you truly are at 12.8 volts with the vehicle running i'd take it out and get a new one. Or if you want take it to the parts house and have them test it.

It was the alt, switched it and now it's right around 13.8. Thanks

Just a little hint , In the future if you're not sure if your alt is charging or not. With the engine running , take a screw driver and place it near the back of the alt right on the armature. if the alt is putting out , there will be a magnetic pull on the screw driver, if not charging , no magnetic pull .

Very good info Moparman! Learn something new everyday. Would have come in handy for me last weekend when I forgot my multimeter at work. I will test it tomorrow anyway with both multi and your magnet trick. Thanks, Eric
