If you got a volt reading of 12.8 with the car running, I'd say you're not charging. If your alt. is working and charging properly you should be around 13.5 to 14.5 volts. If you truly are at 12.8 volts with the vehicle running i'd take it out and get a new one. Or if you want take it to the parts house and have them test it. Eric

Just a little hint , In the future if you're not sure if your alt is charging or not. With the engine running , take a screw driver and place it near the back of the alt right on the armature. if the alt is putting out , there will be a magnetic pull on the screw driver, if not charging , no magnetic pull .
good info!! i'm filing this away in the 'good to know' section of my head. i just hope it doesn't push anything out my ear that i might need!
