I have a 72 cuda with factory front disc brakes. I have put the 11.75" rotors on the front with the factory pin type calipers, the rear is the factory drums. The car will lock up the rear tires when the roads are a little wet under light brakeing. I was thinking a brake pad with a little more bite on the front would help that situation. So basicly I just want a better pad for the front than stock. Does anybody have any ideas or preferences for better front pads?

Better pads on the front may help a little bit, but won't solve the problem. Front-to-rear proportioning is out of whack. Proportioning/combination valve may (1) be stuck/corroded inside, or (2) incorrect for car.

What many have done, myself included, is to remove factory proportioning valve and replace it with an adjustable proportioning valve in the line to the rears. It decreases pressure to the rear brakes proportionally, hence the name, so that - ideally - the fronts will lock up just slightly before the rears.

Check out www.moparaction.com - the article on disc-o-tech or something like that - for a better explanation. Or perhaps Mr. Ehrenberg himself - a member here - can chime in.

Good luck with it.

For better pads try ceramics.I have them on y 65 with pins calipers.Got them at Advanced they were like 30 bucks. One of the best things I did to the discs.I also agree the rears shouldnt lock up that fast.Cheap or contaminated brakes can also cause the problem.Rocky

I have a adjustable proportioning valves in the rear brake lines on both of my cars along with the factory proportioning/distrubtion blocks.

I can tell you it is a very worthwhile addition to your brake system. My cars will stop on a dime and all four lockup togeather. I mounted the one in my 74 under the dash and I can adjust it on the roll, even while braking and can feel it working. I would never drive a old Mopar without one, it makes that big of a difference, I'm here to tell you. The 74 has had one since the middle eighties and it still works today.
You can see it under the left side of my dash in this picture.

I didn't want to run the steel lines through the firewall on my 71, so I mounted it here under the car. It works really well.

Kept all the factory valves in place for a 71 disc brake car. I believe you must have the disc brake valves in place to work well for disc brakes?

Performance Friction carbon-metallics are my favorite pad. They grip fast and progressively.

That's an old Direct Connection valve. Have one just like it - works great on my '72 RR.

I had thought about an adjustable valve on the rear, it just seemed funny that stock stuff would need it. Thanks for the input.

Direct Connection or Mopar performance would not sell them if they weren't needed.
