I have a stock charging and pulley system on a 71 satellite with 360. What would it take to be able and run this denso 90 amp alt in place of the 65 amp that's on there now? Looking for a better output at idle. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/D...20_188586_4435_

Or is there a direct bolt in that already puts out better power at idle. It's been discussed so many times, and i've red so many posts, I'm starting to confuse myself.

that picture is wrong, or it is the cop car one.
in 89, the square back put out 78 amps.
direct bolt in.

there is a later 90's ram van one that looks close to that and was the 90 amp.

the same type feets put on his 440.

my guess is the swing arm will be off and the depth. you might have to space it.

GM offers a 10 dollar chrome swing arm you can pick up at any parts store. will give you more reach.

stud will be close to the head when you are done.

Agree the Denso - 90 or 120 amp - can usually be adapted in a non-AC applicaiton where you can swing or change the slotted bracket. In AC applications, the different spacing of the alternator mounting points can make it hard or impossible.

Another option is the GM case alternator adapted for Chrysler by Powermaster. Same spacing between mount points as the Chrysler. It is a little deeper but often fits SB's. It will not fit BB's with Ed heads (I returned mine to Summit).

A third option is the Chrysler in house 100A alternator. It is heavy and has unique brackets you would probably have to harvest from a core engine... but has great idle output. That's what I wound up doing in a BB AC applicaiton.

Ok so I found the 78amp one here, it's the 1st one... http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/1...omString=search

But the 2nd one down is a 100amp. Since it's a replacement for the stock one on the Volare, it should work for me too right? My only question would be about the stock field wire connections. The stock one and the 78amp one have two of the push-on field wire connections. This 100amp one only has one. What would I do to make this one work?

that second one is clearly the cop car one. totally different mounting brackets.

I used one off of a 9? van that had the smaller denso for my 440 truck,it had the double groove pully already on it.

I just crimped on eyeloops and bolted it on to the non a/c truck bracket.

used the stock VR on the firewal to regulate it.

just make sure you use the external regulated alt

you see it in the sig pic,I ddi flip it over to move the BATT post away from the head so I did not have to trim it and the plastic shroud.
