Hello, i have a 70 charger 4speed with a 440 and i am wondering what carb to use. i had it broke in and running with a holly 770 street avenger but it runs like [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean]. The 440 is a six pack motor minus the six pack and i am running a performer rpm intake. The main problem i am having is if i floor it either in neutral or in gear it will just fall on its face and when its running it smells like [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean]. Im new to carbs so help me out, also should i change up the intake.

thanks

To start ..that is a real good intake you have there..and That should be a good carb to use..look for a tune problem or just a acl pump problem....I have that intake on my motor and it performs great.good bottom end and pulls strong thru mid range..that 770 is plenty for a stock or mild 440-6 motor..I have used the 870 street avenger on a 505 stroker and it hauls a--.The fumes you smell may be from a bad intake vacuum leak, or really look into the tune up..just my 2 cents

yes that is probably the second suggestion for the accelerator pump but i took the carb off and it looks to be the bigger pump.
thanks

I'd check the float levels & that a float is not sinking from a pinhole for starters & PV not blown also then work on the AP

I have the same intake and carb, and had to use a spacer or the thick holley carb gasket so the fast idle screw would not hit the intake.
Mine is on the engine stand, so I have not fired mine up yet. I would pull the carb, and remove the bowls and metering plates. Remove the jets and power valves and spray carb cleaner through all the passages. I had a Holley 670 Truck avenger that had metal in the wells behind the jets. I guess QC has gone down hill at Holley?
