Just put new engine in a 77 m880 truck , the old alt had a short in it put on new alt and battery , now have no power to anything , no lights , no power when you turn the key on , what should I look for??thanks

starting at the batt positive post work your way to the bulkhead & check each connection till you find the open. If good to the bulkhead then work further on downstream inside the dash. EDIT the original short may have fried the fusible link there at the bulkhead

Found the problem , traced wires back into dash and found the alt gauge had melted and burned the wires off , found a thread on another forum that explained how to rewire with out the alt gauge,
