Sounds like you got a bum box. Call FF.

Take care,

Any chance you have a late pitman arm with the larger spline on the car?

I've had similar luck. I get started late Friday, and problems pop up when evryone is closed for the weekend!

pitman arm has been on for atleast 10 years. it fit right on my new steering box.when i turn steering wheel with car on jack stands the pitman arm and center link dont move at all.i sent them a core steering box that i got at a car show rather than send my original. i was hoping maybe all i have to do with this rebuilt one is to adjust it somehow, but it starting to sound like have a bad one.thanks

I just went through this ordeal - FF Stage 3 box, but I also changed out the pitman arm and idler arm as well as all 4 tie rod ends (flat on my back in a parking lot, that was fun).

Kind of a puzzling problem. Only thing I've got to offer is maybe the end of the pitman arm that goes into the centerlink has bound up. (A horrible "lube job at a Jiffy Lube may have caused the bind up in my case, BTW) I had a very hard time departing my old one from the centerlink. Did you separate yours ?

FF doesn't include the valve body, so where did the one you swapped in come from ? I also used the special red "o=rings" and brass washer that came with the box.

well, i just went under the car again cause it was driving me crazy. i looked more carefully today now that i am not worn out like was yesterday. the pitman arm diameter that goes onto the steering box spline is to large so it did not move when i turn wheel. evidently the spline on this steering box that i recieved has a smaller size diameter spline . does anyone know what year pitman arm i would need.thnks for the replies

Real simple to me: The steering column shaft is turning the shaft into the box, yes? If that is so then is the shaft that comes out of the bottom of the FF box that connects to the pitman is turning, yes or no. If NO, then the box is bad. It will have nothing to do with fluid, or the pitman arm or anthing you have done wrong.

sounds like you got the 73 and up pitman arm, but the 72 and back box.

the pitman arm is about 160 bucks for the early arms. Rick eburg has a few for sale in the classifieds here for like 85 bucks.

or you can see if FF will exchange for the later output.
