Hers the deal guys. I jus put the motor back in my 66 Coronet(440). Everything after putting the motor in had beed a NIGHTMARE! Everything that could go wrong has....and then some! Everything that could leak....did....all the parts i ordered were wrong or bad....so i put copper header gaskets on. THe gaskets didnt seal so i take the passenger side off and it touched the back of the alt and blew the fuseable link! Thought i burnt it up! So i get out my old wiring harness and got it fixed. Got it all back together and fired right up and sounded awsome! I started it wed for my dad to hear. So i spend all day waxing it and cleaning it up(havet driven it yet) Go to start it and.....NOTHING!!!!!!! And i mean nothing....no dpone lights or anything. Check battery....hooked up....put charger on it....says its charged! WTH?! I checked to see if there were any loose wires.......nothing.. I am stumped. Even though it says batery has a charge could it still be battery? Or could it bew someting that goes back to blowing the fusable link? But ive had it started and running 2 different times.. Help me guys!

sounds like a bad connection at the battery cables .clean them good and make sure they are tight

It's always frustrating to be so close and then have problems. This is when I either step back and relax for awhile or call in reinforcements, meaning I call my brother or some one else just to come over and help me recheck everything. Sometimes the problem is so obvious that I can't see it and a fresh set of eyes can spot it right away. I'm sure you will figure it out quickly and be on the road soon.

This would be so much easier if I knew what I was doing...

so no power inside at all.
start at the bulkhead with a test light. see if you get power going in from the battery and coming out.

then get inside the car and check again. see if the bulkhead fried.
next would be the amp meter to see if it died after that.

just take it one step at a time till you narrow down where it drops out.

power flows thru the FL into the bulkhead then inside to the ammeter, thru it then to a splice where it T's to the light sw to the ign sw and to the fuse box. You just previously worked w the FL so I'd start there

Is the ground cable connected to the block or chassis. You might check

Ck the battery with a voltmeter, charger could be confused. Anything above 12v should be fine. If batt is ok, sounds like its something downstream of the fusible link. Continuity problem at the bulkhead connector could be intermittent, so I'd check that. Not sure about the 66s but my 70RR has a fuse block between the ammeter and 12v to rest of car. If you have any heavy current draws, power windows or conv top, they will T off just after the ammeter fuse block.

Yes the ground cable is connected to the block and chassis. Well for a shot in the dark i put the charger on it again over night and still nothing! So im clueless as to whats going on. I just dont get it. Started and ran fine and now nothing?..And i really dont know the first thing about wiring. If i dont get it figured out by this weekend its going in the corner of the garage and out of my site. And 8 years ago i put all brand new wiring in the car from frot to back. So if its a wiring issue i would think it has to do with the fusable link issue i had. I dont know....i just give up.

Check your fusebox. My charger used to do that because I piggybacked all the wires off three 3 terminals for juice. I found out that the stress of the terminal cause a loose connection. The slightest jiggle would restore juice. I have since hooked up one cable and ran it to an 6-gang ATO fuse strip mounted close to the fusebox and divert power that way

Ok well i check all connections and they aree tight. So i took the test light and clipped it on the the stud where the fusable ink bolts to and checked it and i have power to that point. I also checked it at the alt and i had nothing.....so does this help any? Not a wiring guyso im trying to narrow it down by myself

One quick test of the battery positive, bulkhead, ammeter, and fuse link circuits:

Disconnect batt neg. Check for continuity between batt pos and alternator output stud. Should be very close to zero ohms.

Well im not sure if ive found the problem or not but where he fusable link attaches to is the starter selenoid right? Well i have power to the big lug but not the smaller one that the small wire to the starter runs. Well i was just screwing around with the trest light and must have touched both posts together sand the car turned over and scared the living crap out of me!......lol....so does that sound like its the starter selenoid thats bad?

Is your car an automatic? If so could be a bad neutral safety switch.

OK guys i got it fixed. What it was is when we replaced the fusable link it pushed the clip out of the bulkhead connector. So we pulled it out and and shoved the connector back in ...plugged it in ...and its good to go! Thanks for all the help guys!
