When I replace the longer wheels studs with the standard length studs on my 8 3/4 do I need to pull the axles to get the studs out? Is there a easier way of doing this?

Pull the shafts, press out the old ones and press in the new ones. If you hammer them out, you could bend the flange. If you pull them in, you could stretch the threads. Press them both ways. Tim.

Been using a hammer to knock out the old ones and installing the new with washers and a lug nut screwed on backwards for many years and never have a flange or thread go bad. As Tim says you could pull the axles and pay to have the studs pressed in and out if you want.

We got them out. Wasn't too bad at all. Thanks for the help!

I use either washers or oversized nuts for backing to pull back in using a lug nut flat side to draw against with an air wrench.
