When should one go to 3/8 pushrods? I'm installing a solid cam that calls for springs 136 lbs @ 1.880 installed height. Rockers are crane roller rockers, haven't bought pushrods yet.

Me thinks you mean Bend, OR. Burns is east of us about 160 miles, Smith Bros is 5 miles from my shop here in Bend, OR

Smith Bros. has the specs and recommendations based on your engine/valve train specs.

From what I've seen, pushrods can help improve power. Less deflecion and lower harmonics help. Plus for any given weight, larger diameter will be stiffer. If you have to buy them anyhow, 3/8" is worthwile. If major head clearancing or significant added cost is involved maybe not for your application. I know with similar (closed I assume) pressures I went 3/8". Little to no added cost and no clearancing required.

I had to get longer pushrods for my 493 so I ordered the 3/8 pushrods from 'Manton". Had them in 2 days and they are a top notch piece. Ron

Don't make the mistake of scrimping. I was useing the smaller push rods for a while. Bent two, busted one. I got a set of 3/8's Smiths and all is well. I'm only running a 508, with 1.6 roller rockers. So go from there.

I went to Crane 3/8 alloys back in the 70s.I was running a small .500 lift hyd cam at the time with adjustable rockers.I still have that set as I went solid in the late 80s.They werent much more than 5/16s.I think the set was like 90 bucks when I bought them.
