I just got a used 04 durango, AWD with 4.7 v8. It has a switch for locked 4WD.
The only 4WD I ever worked on was an 88 bronco and that was pretty simple- trans into transfer case, two solid axles, the fronts had switches on the hubs to lock them and the transfer case had it's own "stick shift"
How does this sucker work? I don't plan to work on it (fingers crossed) I hate working on modern stuff. I would like to know how it works. I'm guessing the transfer case is full time into two open diffs with some kind of solenoid locker or something?
A brief explanation or a link to an article would be great.
I found a bunch of stuff on the 4.7 using google, but no articles on the chrysler AWD. Who makes it anyway? Spicer or somebody?
Thanks!
